Hello from Merseyside

Hello from Merseyside.

I'm contemplating the purchase of a Pathfinder. It would be for leasure use only and I'm probably looking for a 3 year old low mileage vehicle. I had been looking for a Land Rover 110 station wagon, however thefts and prices are rising and the comfort factor overall is pretty low! As a low mileage driver (@6000 Miles per annum) I've managed to convince SWMBO that a 4x4 would be ideal for days out locally and also the regular trips to visit friends who live within the Cairngorm's National Park.

Previously I owned a chipped and tuned L200 Warrior that did 14mpg, but could fly on the highway and handled exceptionally well when used daily offroad. Unfortunately it had to go when I changed trades a few years ago, as I couldn't justify the continued expense fuel and service costs. Since then, I've owned a couple of new 2wd BMW's, however I'm missing the high seating position of a 4x4.

So far, I've looked at vehicles from Ford, Subaru, Isusu and Mitsubishi, however internet searches keep pushing me back towards a Nissan. I decide to join here, as I dont mind getting my hands dirty, however I do appreciate owners thoughts on any potential reliability issues!

Hi Dave and to NNNet.

So you've already done a fair bit of homework and research on which truck would suit your needs.

Take a look in the thinking of buying section, you'll find plenty of info in there. Also take a look at the Pathfinder tech section for any common issues.

Hopefully you'll find some useful info.

Go test drive a 3 year old Navara V6. They are so much better than anything else. The only regular problem is the weak intercooler so no worries about reliability either.

Smile Hi

Hi Jem and Landmannnn

Thank you for your warm welcome.

I've been looking for a while, but couldn't decide on what I wanted. However having just arrived back home from a week in Scotland and seeing what everyone else has up there, I don't think I can go far wrong with a Nissan.

I'll go and peruse the forum as suggested and evaluate my choices.

Many thanks again

I missed that you said you were after a Pathfinder.
Some things to consider are that the Pathfinder was right at the end of the production cycle 3 years ago, so problems generally sorted and their price was discounted.
Cynically you could call it a poor man's Discovery or XC90.. Not quite up to the levels of refinement of those two but a lot cheaper.

There is a lot of choice in this market sector, even more if you go for more of the car derived SUVs.(eg Évoque versus Disco) I know a couple of people who swear by the VW ToeRag.

Happy hunting!

(I still recommend you test drive a Navara V6!)
