Re: d22 ignition switch problems help please

Hi Chris and sorry to hear of your woes
Haven't heard of this problem on D22's but some other cars when owners have loads of keys and stuff on the ring it's so heavy it causes the barrel difficulties in wearing it oval.
It may not be a 'fix' but try spraying in some WD40 into the barrel tumblers and push the key in and out to hopefully 'free off' the tumblers inside.
Worth a go before getting a new ignition switch barrel and lugging around two keys for the truck.

It not going to be easy to change, some cars have special anti tamper bolts for the ignition barrel block, plus you will have to dismantle and remove the steering wheel/airbag.
Try the WD first, easy is always best!

Re: d22 ignition switch problems help please

Have a similar problem, ignition barrel seized on my D22. Have been using the WD40 for a while but it has finally given up !

Think my key has a chip in it, so i'm guessing i cant just get any ignition barrel to replace it. Is this right or can anyone give me any suggestions as to how i can fix it?

Any help would be appreciated, Rich

Re: d22 ignition switch problems help please

You should never use a 'wet' lubricant in key barrels, but use a dry graphite powder, wet lubricants attract dust etc and make the locks sticky worsening the problems.
D22 immobilser keys come apart, so you can replace the key blade, central locking switches, top covers etc, this means you can get another barrel and key set, remove the original chip and put it in your 'new' key without having any immobiliser faults.
Having said that D22's are renown for dropping immobilser codes, so no guarantees.
The central locking system can be owner programmed.

Very first upgraded D22 - 9 years and 70K miles and still going strong!
