D40 Door mirror. Glass and indicator replacement
For indicator mirrors only
1. How to remove and replace door mirror glass.
Tilt the mirror until the bottom edge is outermost.
Take a flat paint scraper about three inches wide and insert it from the bottom between the mirror and the frame.
Push it up gently until it contacts the plastic clip ring.
Gently push the scraper against the mirror frame applying pressure to the rear of the mirror.
Steady the glass as the bottom will then pop out.
Tilt the glass upwards to release the rest of the clip ring.
Unplug the two electrical heater contacts.
Plug the electrical heater leads onto the contacts on the back of the glass.
Align the clip rings and gently snap the glass into place.
2. How to remove and replace indicator and puddle light assembly.
Remove mirror glass as described above.
Remove the back cover off the mirror housing. There are six plastic clips but only three are accesible; two at the top and one near the outside. Unclip these three while pushing the top of the cover away from the housing. Each clip will try to re-clip itself as you do this so you will need to keep outward pressure on the cover to stop this happening.
Once the cover has moved far enough back to prevent the clips from re-engaging the top can be eased backwards until the lower clips disengage and the cover becomes free.
Beneath the cover you will see two screws that secure the indicator assembly in place. Remove these.
There is another small screw inside towards the outside. You will see a large screw but the screw you need is just below and behind this. Remove this screw and the indicator assembly can be lifted away allowing the puddle light assembly to be slid out and the indicator plug to be unplugged.
Insert the puddle lamp assembly into the socket and reconnect the indicator plug.
Insert the indicator/puddle light assembly into the mirror housing and fit and tightening the two large screws.
Insert and tighten the small screw inside the housing.
Align and snap home the mirror cover.
Reconnect the mirror heater connectors and snap the mirror into place.
If I think of it I might take some pics next time.
