Re: D40 EGR Blank Mod. (Partly Done)

Finally blanked mine off yesterday, only took 5 mins.
Took the top plastic engine cover off (2 x 10mm bolts near front then pull up from rear)
This is what you're after on the drivers side of engine

Two 12mm bolts to undo and access gained

Gasket and blank

I fitted gasket to exhaust side of blank, all done.

It really is that easy to do!

Caution: Make sure you don't cross thread the bolts when refitting as they go into alloy!

What exactly do you mean by this? Sorry if this is somewhat of a stupid question but I'm not English and I don't really understand what you mean.

I've been reading up on blocking the EGR and I'm ordering a blankingplate on ebay. This is what I'm planning on getting. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR-valve-bla ... 19cffa2d57 Mine is a euro 3.

Just trying to make sure I have all the info before I start. Best to get an extra gasket from Nissan or shouldn't I bother? If not, which side of the blankingplate should I put the gasket on?

Do I need to do anything else when I block it. Resetting something?

Just screw the two bolts by hand at least two turns and then use the tool.

Re: D40 EGR Blank Mod. (Partly Done)

Miran said it best with 2 words! as he said screw the bolts by hand and then use the tool to tight them..this way you are sure 100%
then do the ecu reset described here: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=5786 with this procedure the ecu (mainboard computer) learns again your driving style and all the mods you made on your truck like EGR blocking

Re: D40 EGR Blank Mod. (Partly Done)

Thanks guys, I get it now.

This ECU reset, is this important? Does it need to be done? Reading the link, it seems like a few people have some problems with the resetting. Not to keen on making my ECU go bananas if I do it wrong.

Re: D40 EGR Blank Mod. (Partly Done)

I've blanked mine today. All together (including cutting a blank from 1,5 mm inoxydable steel plate) I spent less than half of an hour.
The result is amazing (I hope it is not just the placebo effect). Engine reacts as having a fifth cylinder added. Incredible difference at extremely low rpm. The rpm range from which the engine "pulls" descended for more than 300 rpm.
I made a short test drive and it felt like a different car. I could cruise at 1200 - 1400 rpm!
No problems with electronics so far.
I've blocked the pipe at "cold" end. It doesn't matter where it is blocked, the exhaust gases are not able to recirculate. But in future I shall block also the "hot" end, to prevent the exhaust gases to get into the EGR valve.
