When I first bought my D22, I informed my insurer of the change, being a 'commercial' they wouldn't touch it, also I wanted insurance quickly, comparison sites weren't really around then, so I went into town to a broker.
He recommended I go with Red Star it cost (from memory) about £215.
Next year the renewal came in at well over £2,500.
I called the broker who told me that this was quite a common occurrence with commercial vehicle insurance, they send out unrealistic renewals in the hope that the company secretary will just think, 'Oh well the van insurance is due, better pay it'.
I told the broker I was going elsewhere.
Having the time, I went online and found that the Post Office would insure me for about £230, PLUS after 3 months I would get £50 cashback so the actual cost was £180!
I bought their policy and waited for the documents.
When they arrived, I was absolutely astounded to see who the underwriter was?
I was with them again, however the next year the renewal was unrealistic yet again, not quite as high but enough to make me change.
I have NO loyalty to insurers, the cheapest gets my business, after all they have NO loyalty to us!
Very first upgraded D22 - 10 years and 72K miles and still going strong!
