Tyre Noise Regulations

All replacement tyres are now subject to changes in noise regulations, and these affect tyres with widths over 215mm from October 2011:-

http://www.blackcircles.com/general/tyr ... egulations

http://www.vca.gov.uk/additional/files/ ... cement.pdf

This will have an effect on the Navaras because in the short term tyres may be in very short supply as manufactureres get new molds tooled, reduce non-compliant stocks and build stocks of the new "S" marked tyres

cheers

Re: Tyre Noise Regulations

BFG have redesigned their MT to be in line with regs - most of the extreme stuff like Maxxis creepies are off limits now, and many wont sell them as have been running stock down, so are in short supply.
I run KL 71s on my Sportrak, which are great, but dunno what I'll get next now - mind you they may be OK.
Incidentally Re-treads are exempt at the moment, so stuff like Insa Turbos may be OK for a bit...

cheers

Re: Tyre Noise Regulations

Cool, my Recip Trial M/T's are re-treads so they are exempt too.Surely there must be a performance compromise if people make M/T tyres noise compatible?

Re: Tyre Noise Regulations

Jesus Christ!!! What will `they` think of next?

I've just bought a set of 265/70/R17 Maxxis Buckshot Mudders to fit to my new truck, when I pick it up on Tuesday. I had a set of these on my old truck and they really are the mutts nuts when you're off road. They hum like bloody hell but you soon get used to it!

89.00 plus VAT per tyre and about 15mm tread depth! A lot of rubber for comparitively little money!!

My last set did 48,000 with still plenty left when I sold the vehicle.

Best regards
Mick

Re: Tyre Noise Regulations

Has anyone got more info on this?

I run maxis MT's on my truck an I've proably got another 10k left in them. Im wondering if I should be buying another set and storing them until next year when they will be needed.

Can't find anything anywhere that says 1) if MT's are exempt (I'm guessing they are not) and 2) which MT's out currently will pass. If stuff like the kl71 or BFG MT are ok going forward then fine I'm in no rush. But it'd be nice to know so I can prepare if not.

Having noisy tyres on your truck won't be an issue with the po po and it won't fail an MOT. You just won't be able to buy them from october as I understand it.
