cleaning inlet manifold.. operation gunk removal!

as you all know, the egr system and crank case breathers pump some pretty horrid goo into the intake system of any engine!! so I thought I'd do a quick how to on cleaning the gunk out!
basically. you are going to need a socket set, grips, oven cleaner + a pressure. washer!
first thing up need to do is pull off the intercooler, 4 bolts and 2 jubilee clips, then the egr tube (2 bolts on each flange) once they are out the way unbolt the inlet manifold and remove.
now give the inside a liberal cheat of the oven cleaner so it starts to foam out of all the ports:

let it soak for 20 mins then give it another spray.

now it's time to get the pressure washer of the case after its soaked for another 10 mins. get right in with the lance and give it hell!! once this is done, let it dry, then re assemble the truck

this is my manifold ports before and after :

after:

Great job.

I would never have thought of using oven cleaner

Nice write up.

A bloke on another forum did the final clean of his Pajero (Shogun) inlet manifold in the dishwasher.

He is a brave man!

Cheers Joe

Egr is having 2 plates put in instead of the egr tube, when the engine goes back together!!!!

Better to put the egr tube back but blank the manifold end.
It will look like the egr is still complete for emission regs.

Blank it the 'hot side' from the exhaust
The EGR valve is open to atmosphere anyway, blowing all those exhaust gases into the engine bay and without a nice tight bonnet seal into your heater intake for you to breath in

After seeing the pics myself, I can on the vented to atmosphere quote from Wozzi.
Beggers belief really, but the proof is there on the euro3 valve.
