08 plate Adventura Auto - 36k miles

Friday morning, 6am, started my Nav to go to work. The second she fired, I put her into drive and pulled away. She did about 10 yards and the engine cut! No warning lights or buzzers, just the usual dash lights with ignition on/engine off.
Puzzled, I turned off completely, waited 5 seconds or so and then tried again. She cranked over faaaaaar more than usual, about 5 or 6 seconds as if starved of fuel (1/4 tank) and then fired up OK. The 30 mile motorway run to work was fine, even at 70+ and I've just had a weekend away towing my 5ver with no probs at all? :scratch:

Any ideas please chaps? Must admit that I've not read the manual yet to see if it says anything like " you MUST allow the engine to idle for a few seconds before trying to pull away".

Might have just been one of those things, i know if i stall mine cold it can take abit longer then normal to start.
Probably a good idea to let it idle for about half a min before driving off anway just to make sure things are ok

Thanks for the replies guys.
Already done R2 service with new (Milners) fuel filter.
Did the same thing again this morning. Surely an Auto shouldn't stall, even when cold?

When you did the service did you carry out ECU reset???

Autos will stall if you have a issue with fuel delivery!

could even be a glow plug issue?? :?

Seems strange that its doing it twice, could be the early signes of an SCV issue

I've heard that's not a great idea, as they engine is turning over but the oil is still cold and viscous and therefore not likely to have worked its way up around the engine. Apparently it's better to pull off straight away because the higher engine revs means the oil is driven up around the engine sooner.

As Andy said, turning over a lot before starting could be a glow plug issue. I know my old truck never needed to heat, but I always wait for the glow plug light on this one to go out before turning over the engine when it's cold, otherwise it turns over two or three times longer before starting. Then I get a puff of white smoke/unburnt diesel vapor from the exhaust when it does start.

Must admit that I dont understand how it could be a glow plug issue as she starts first time INSTANTLY and then cuts after about 15 seconds. It's only after that, that I have to crank for a long time and I recon that's to draw the fuel back up?
Surely if the glow plugs were going, she wouldn't start in the first place and there'd be clouds of smoke when she did.
I've just fitted a new Nissan fuel filter.......£45 OUCH!!!!!!! and she running fine at the mo. Just have to see what happens at 6am tomorrow mornbing when she's been stood all night. Nissan techs at Northwich say there's no non-return valve in the system so the fuel cant be tracking back to the tank. They recon if the filter doesn't work, its always possible that the pumping/priming bulb or pipework might be drawing air?
I emptied the Milners filter into a clean bowl and the diesel was spotless. Trouble is, there's no MIL light so I'm not sure that there'll be any stored codes to read if she goes in?

Hold your breath, might have sorted it! :bounce:
Started fine this morning AND stayed started. No cutting and 32.5mpg at 60 on the M56. :mrgreen:
Which means that either ...........
a/ the filter had gone down in some way
or
b/ possibly one of the hose connections wasn't tight enough (even tho' they all seemed OK to me).

Time will tell, for now, happy bunny! :mrgreen:
