It's gotta be just suspension, cos my Pathfinder (which IS a Navara D40 with different rear suspension) will tow 3000kg.

The Navara curb weight is 3210 Kg (GTW - Max towing weight) (5810 - 2600) = 3210Kg so I presume the Pathfinder must be lighter? It is illegal to tow a trailer heavier than the vehicle towing it..

No, it is illegal to tow a trailer heavier than the car's towing limit (which may be defined by the manufacturer or deduct the cars gross train weight from the trailers maximum weight (gross trailer weight).
It is not illegal to tow a trailer heavier than the car, for a novice tower it just makes good sense to keep the maximum trailer weight to about 80% of the cars kerb weight, especially with some mamby pamby motor like a Mondeo!!

I stand corrected mowerman, I should have written "It is the combination of the car’s Maximum Permitted weight (MPW) sometimes called Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and the trailers Gross Trailer Weight (GTW). To get the towing limit simply deduct the MPW from the GTW. It is an offence to exceed the car’s towing limit"

I suggest the goverment imposes a new limit of 200kg, this will free up our roads in the the summer (Mr Caravan Man).

Discovered that the Nav will tow a lot more by accident. Bit of a mix up at the quarry on their part and they dumped 4T+ of ready mix in the trailer. Luckily it's round the corner so the trailer pushed us home anyway.

It is a bit frustrating that you can't tow to a 3T limit. Off road on sites I do tow 3T generators at times and it would be nice to have that ability in the Nav. If I end up doing it more may have to resort to the Landy route as another vehicle which would be less than ideal

Sorry to bump a really old thread.... but.... reading it I am confused.

I own a 55 plate D40 Navara Aventura.
I want to buy an Ifor Williams Box trailer (for work)

The BV105 model has the following spec.
BV105 6' H/R
Gross Weight: 2700kg
Unladen Weight: 735kg

(The smaller BV85 model has the same Gross Weight, but smaller unladen weight - due the fact its 2' shorter)

For what it's worth, I dont intend towing far, and the items I have in mind are bulky but not heavy. But I dont suppose that makes any difference.

OK to tow with my Nav or what?
I'm not interested "if" it will tow it, I know mechanically it will, am only interested in if its legal to tow it.
Have scowered the manual and cant find any guidance.

Your truck can tow 2700kg (braked) Perfect for the trailer you have in mind!
