Hi,i have a 2003 navara 4x4 pickup (brother in laws actually)that i wish to replace the gearbox in.I am experienced in this sort of job but not Navara's specifically. Is there anything that is really difficult,ie is the access ok for the bell housing bolts, starter motor, clutch release mech, etc.I'll be doing this with help on the ground ie no four post ramp just heavy duty drive on ramps ,trolley jacks etc,is this advised or is the box too heavy too remove without a four poster & transmission jack?
kind regards
tim

hi i did my clutch on my dad's navara yes the gearbox is very hevy i am a mechanic and i do have ramp tool's ect. the thing i can rember struggerling with was the bar across the rear of the box bolted to the chassis it has the bottom arm anitroll bar also going through it with i could not remove. i did not need to drop the gear box so it was not a problem i just slid the gear box on my transmission jack and it held it up while i replaced the clutch. the bolts on the bell housing are ok to get at. it say on autodata 5.3 hours to replace cluch and same to get gear box out and back to remove and refit gear box. good luck

Having removed my engine when i did the big end mod, i cant help but think that this may be easier as opposed to laying on the floor wrestling with a very heavy gearbox?

If your handy with the spanners you should have the engine out in 2 hours.

Obviously i cant comment on sliding the gear box back as i have never done it
