New stereo in 2008 d40 adventura

Recently bought my first Navara being the adventura and it comes with the built in cd changer sat nav unit.

I’m really hoping I can replace this with a modern double DIN unit so I can use DAB radio etc.

I’ve run into trouble when I’ve disconnected the unit as it seems to have triggered some sort of immobiliser that makes a weird two tone beeping when turning the key in the ignition.

I suspect that somebody may have fitted some sort of aftermarket security as I cannot seem to find anything regarding this noise and none of the usual tricks work to make it start.

Two questions really...

1) has anybody else come across this weird noise and lockdown?

2) can an aftermarket stereo be fitted to this model if if change the centre console or is the original head unit coded to the immobilser??

If anyone has. Managed to fit one I’d massively appreciate the advice!!

Please help...

Chris

No the radio shouldn't affect the imobiliser
Any chance of a recording of the noise?
Ive replaced my sat nav radio by swoping the center section of dash and useing a iso addapter lead with no problem at all

Had a good mechanic look at it and someone has previously fitted an aftermarket immobiliser. Luckily he’s now bypassed it so that would explain the strange noise.

Hopefully the stereo goes in without a problem.

Did you make your own mounts or get a set of another D40?

Thanks

I got the complete middle section of dash out of a lower spec nav and the radio brackets came with it so it was just a straight swop parts

Well managed to get the brackets from a scrap yard and the new stereo is up and running.

It’s all pioneer gear including a reversing camera I’m yet to wire up.
Has anyone installed one of these?

I’m guessing I have to branch into the reverse light wiring so the camera automatically comes on at the unit??

A good install. Plenty have fitted a reversing camera, the dilemma is where to fit it, high or low....

On rainy days, it's better to have it higher...

Double din head units slot straight in to a D40. Over time I have come to choose Pumpkin Android head units. The best in my opinion. No crashing, tested and reliable with excellent after sales back up.

I should have said before, Pioneer are great units, excellent quality, just not great value in comparison to the Pumpkin Android. Which are faster, have better memory, way more functions, certainly a lot more connections and flexibility. But, the Pioneer looks nicer!

I’m happy with it so far 👍

Where do you generally run the cable for the camera?

Just in the process of putting sound deadening in the doors and making some mdf mounts for the rear doors
