Amorak

I see the latest Amoral now has 258bhp, presumably to compete with the X Class.

For the UK market the full price for the top model is now 46,000, seems high considering "cheap interior" is a common comment.

For the UK people, interesting that while it breaks the 40k tax barrier, these rules don't apply to pickups, so might make a tax efficient option.

So they have dialled in a bit extra - but now well out of my price bracket
It still has the best 4wd system of any Euro truck though, which tow-ers may like (well, only the ones that use uphill, reverse pitches, on loose gravel, grass or snow!). I have however, no idea if these work OK for the "let's off-road!" community....

No low range and only 3.1 tons towing put me off. Otherwise the Aventura looks very good inside. And with the 270hp over-boost gives it a nice kick mid range.

They are regularly up-plated to be able to do 7t GTW in the 5th-wheel community, I believe, so I suspect the 3.1 limit is a marketing thing for the UK, and the truck can do more. Usually, no more needed than some chassis bolsters and air-bags to get the SV-Tech plate, but I realize you are talking towing using a tow bar, not an in-bed hitch!.... I am not sure how that can get uprated...

The fancy hill descent control and 8 speed auto mean that the lack of low range isn't an issue, at least according to the journalists.
3.1 T is a bit poor for towing, especially when they can get 3.5 in Oz with a special towbar.

I would think low-range is slightly less of issue with an auto with a lot of gears, as you say. My experience shifting 4.2t attached to mine, on some quite steep, low-mu inclines bears that out.... But to your point, I think max mass is a lot to do with where a towbar is attached to a chassis - it's the levering effect during pitch that I think is the problem, more so than fore-aft forces. Any towbar where the ball can be a bit closer to the chassis will be better, and the bar having attachment points as close to the rear axle as poss. will also help....

I wonder if the Amarok limit is really about the limitations of the optional VW tow bar they want to sell you, more than a chassis strength issue?

After all, despite the products being good, it is proven in law that VW cheat.....

SV Tech uprated my D40 with just a paper chase and a NP300 tow bar so maybe they can do the same with the Amarok. Pretty stupid of VW to restrict the UK trucks to 3.1 and the Aus' spec' to 3.5.

I'm not up with the theme on this... Cricket is like watching paint dry, but where there is ball that can ruin the finish....

My point is, that in countries where people play cricket cheating is not the norm. Where cricket is not played, cheating is normal.

Just look at sport - the cheats are the Americans, Germans, Russians. When did you last hear of a Jamaican, Indian, or New Zealander sports cheat?
