Hi!

Reviewing the manual of my Nissan D23 2017 Diesel, it offers me 5 variations of oils that I can use, but it mainly recommends the 5W-30, in case there is no availability to use 5W-40, 10W-30, 10W-40, 10W- 50, 15W-40. In the workshop they have always put 15W-40 (in my opinion very high), can I change to 5W-30?

It is currently 49,500 kms / 30,700 miles.

I would greatly appreciate your comments.

Thank you very much for your answers.

My question is whether using 15W-40 for 30,700 miles has affected the engine to such an extent that it couldn't use a less viscous oil like 5W-30.

It will have done no harm at all. Think about what happens in a neglected engine that hasn't had the oil changed in far too long. Would you worry about putting fresh oil in to replace the treacle you poured out?
