Hi Legends. I own a Navara D40 2.5TD 2008 Auto. It’s severely over revving in first and second gear to gain traction, just as if it were a slipping clutch in a manual. I’m told it’s most likely the Tranmission Control Module or TCM, pricey exercise. Firstly, can anyone offer any advice on the location of the TCM? And secondly, has anyone experienced these symptoms before that capsule possibly offer a few things to try before throwing my wallet at a mechanic. Much appreciated. Welcome to the forum. No experience of replacing a TCM, but are you sure the fluid level is high enough?

Thanks mate! The fluid was a bit low but topped it up with about 500ml, engine off, and had the same problem. No problems in reverse though?

In my experience, the only thing you can really do at home is check fluid levels and make sure that there is no coolant in the ATF from a leaking radiator cooler.

Everything else is pretty much specialist stuff, even the electronics are inside the transmission. Actually I would put my money on it being a failed clutch or slipping brake band.
