high revving when idling?

Hi all, my 53 plate 2.5 Navara has a strange problem, occaionally it revs when idling at between 1500-1700 revs, i took it it my garage and they plugged it in and it came up with fuel pump fault, so the pump was sent away and no problems found with it, so £800 later no cure! then we found that by lifting the accelerator pedal upwards it would bring the idle down to correct revs, so £100 later a new pedal assembly had been fitted, and it worked fine! but 2 weeks down the line its started its old tricks again! any ideas?

Cheers Duncan.

im sure i remember something on here about letting the engine idle for 10 mins and the ecu wil reset the idle speed...

Mowerman you'll probably be able to find the post in question with your scary super mod powers of recollection

*edit*

there you go, last post on this thread mentions it :thumbright:
Thankyou will give it a try and let you know
hi i have the same problem with my 03 nav,it is an ecu foult all i do is turn the engine off then on again and let it idele for 5-10 mins then it sorts its self out.hope this helps.
I know that from memory if you have the heated mirrors on this puts a load on the engine causing it to rev? this only happens if the rear demistor is off though for some reason. With it on and the heated mirrors on it doesn't rev. Weird but mine has always done this!
thank you for this post you got it spot on

just let idle for 10min, and back to normal.
RPM should go back to 750~850 :thumbright: :thumbright: :santa:
Mine just started doing the same :x Luckily found this thread before I was about to start fiddling with things. :D Will give it a go and cross fingers…… :!:
:thumbright: 5 mins and worked like a dream :thumbleft: :cheers2:
I've had the same problem a couple days ago and lucky to find this thread just by Google search. Thanks for the info, 5 minutes it was back to normal. Had to be part of this community as I have very little mechanical knowledge, so I am a new member now.

1. NO spark plugs on a diesel D22, you mean glow plugs
2. The switch you refer to is the high idle switch, nothing to do with the glow plugs, it's for warming the engine up by temporary raising the idle speed
