Hope you've all had a good weekend!

Been getting a couple of error codes and finally got around to taking out the EGR. It was absolutely CAKED closed so given it a good clean up but can't seem to operate the valve by simply pushing on it. Is that normal? Does it HAVE to be electrically opened?

How can I test if the valve works without refitting it and waiting to see if the CEL comes back on? Apply 12v? Which pins?

TIA!

Plucked up the courage to take the plastic cover off. I didn't want to before because I thought there would be some kind of complex circuitry and didn't want to break any water-proofing measures.

Bit of a turn on the big white cog and the valve has freed right up. 9 v battery across the pins and it turns too. (y) on mine it was the two pins silver in colour (as opposed to brass) that were located closest to the solenoid side of the EGR unit. The other pins will be for position feedback to ECU.
