Few months ago had a misfire got checked and was injector pump temp reading 120 degrees Celsius, which clearly wasn't, then few weeks ago all of a sudden had really poor starting would crank just not fire unless turning off and on key upto 10 times, got a second hand pump as brand new one is 3500$ just had it fitted and still same problem but it's running a lot smoother, mechanic says it might be the second hand pump has been altered as they timed it twice to see if was timing wrong, getting a specialist to look tomorrow but wondering if anything else could be causing this????, wether cold or hot still has hard starting, runs fine and doesn't die it's only starting issues, they found somewater in the old pump and lines and had been cleared out, please help

I think nowadays an ECU turns on the glow plugs for startup and keeps them on for for a minute or so even if the engine is warm.
I am not sure that applies to an older engine though.
