Anyone on the forum with lots of knowledge on automotive paint? Any auto body repairers?

I’ve always preferred non-metallic paint colours in the belief that it is easier to make small repairs to if scratches or rust spots need to be repaired.

But I’ve been involved in a few accident repairs now in the last few years, and I’ve noticed inevitably the repairer removes and paints the entire panel, even the roof on my Navara.

So is my belief misplaced? Are modern repair techniques such that it doesn’t really matter what the paint is so long as the repair shop can match it?

Personally I have found that my local paint shop can match the paint exactly

However I have found it much easier to paint a whole panel rather than to spend ages trying to blend in a small patch

I tend to agree that metallic is much more difficult to match.

Metallic can be patched but its much easier to repaint the whole panel as theres no blending in to worry about! and if you can remove the panel it makes life even eaiser as theres little or no masking up.
