Knock/clunk/creak when accelerating

Hi all,

I’ve tried to do a search but not really too sure what’s best to search.

I noticed last night a bizarre noise when accelerating. It doesn’t happen when car is stationary and revving, happens when in gear and immediately when I accelerate, I initially thought it was clutch related but I put it in gear and didn’t touch the clutch, only pressed the accelerator on and off multiple times and happened every time.

It happens as soon as I depress the accelerator (within a second) and it a short noise and doesn’t happen again until I release the accelerator and then depress it again.

would anyone have any slight idea what this could be??

thank you for any ideas.

Climb underneath and see if there is any play in the rear joint on the front propshaft, quite a common failure.

Thank you,

Ill get under tomorrow in the daylight and have a fiddle.
Had a look beneath and the front prop shaft seems to be ok, the front of the rear prop shaft had more play but when rotating there’s a noise within the transfer case which sounds similar to the noise I can hear?? 🤷‍♂️
Assuming you are driving in 4hi, see if there is any oil in the Tbox.

Maybe jack a front wheel off the ground and turn the prop/wheel by hand and see what you get.

Worst case a damaged Tbox, not too expensive second hand.

Thank you for your help, haven’t managed to get under again but I will soon.
So I managed to jack a rear wheel up and rotate slightly and found that I am getting a knocking noise from the transfer box. I was rotating the wheel back and forth only a few degrees and get it every time when rotating backwards (which means it would click when the engine is rotating the wheels forwards) i have a little video which I’ll try and workout how to get in here
Ok, the Tbox is chain driven, so it sounds like something is broken or the chain has stretched.

I would recommend you go over to eBay and buy a used one. They aren't that expensive, although as always a bit of a gamble second hand.
