It is classed as a commercial vehicle so has to be insured as such. You will need to ring round as there are some very wild quotes out there . Saying who I use would be of no use to you as they are specialist within a sector and our 4 navs on a fleet deal cost less than some seem to be quoted for one and thats with a 20yo named driver as well. What work do you do ? as that can really make a big difference.

All insurance is so subjective.... there are so many factors to consider and the biggest is actually post code!

Apart from that, the Navara is a LGV as stated above. I recently sold my Ford Custom 6 seat LWB. I had loads of interest from people who thought they could just add the van to their car policy. It needs a totally different policy to car insurance and often companies won't allow bonus to transfer. One driver who wanted my van was 45, no claims for 25+ years and they couldn't get a quote under 800 pounds as they would only allow 3 years no claims to be ported across.

If you compare the meerkat for van insurance the lowest quote it spits out is usually within 50 pounds each way of what you can achieve.... its a good starting point.

If you've never held commercial vehicle insurance the first year will be way more than a car insurance would be.

Good luck with it.

Well I have it down to 460 with protected no claims. Im 49 with 9 yrs NCB. My current car is capable of 145 mph and really quick and I only pay 350. My current company wont insure me (Im still waiting confirmation of this) I hope I can eventually get it down to 350 with a year or two under my belt. Thanks for the suggestions

Glad you’re sorted.... I came from a 6.1 litre 500 hp SRT Hemi Jeep to the Ford custom and the insurance for the van was double...at 500 quid for the first year.......I had 9 years and they only allowed 5 for the commercial insurance.

I now pay under 300 but it took a year or 2 for the commercial insurance to come down to ‘car like’ premiums. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

I use NFU.

Pickups are expensive to insure, guessing that claims must be higher for pickups which is why the premiums are more expensive.

Hi Phil,

By all means try us here at Flux - we are accustomed to quoting all pick-up's and 4x4's and we also provide a discount for being a member of this forum.

Please call on 0800 916 1288.

It does. Also a commentary on how nice an area you live in....

Score an A means you live in a nice middle class area, F or refer means you probably live in a run down city centre....
Yes, in the case of Birmingham areas it was also the birth of the ‘cash for crash’ scams that cost the insurance industry huge amounts before they twigged.... it had been going on years before it finally made the press. I’m sure it was one of the driving factors behind the birth of dash cams also.

Hi Phil, looks like you are sorted but if it goes pear shaped then I too use my Nav just for pleasure & general commuting to work, school runs etc. I'm insured with Admiral (non-commercial). Haven't got the details with me as I'm currently on shift, but under £600 & that is without any no claims bonus due to my not owning my own car for several years & being a named driver only. Hope that helps.

We have an issue with our insurance, we have a Nissan NP300 Navara Tekna DCI Auto. The details [Reg No.] when entered into the "database" brings up a 'Nissan NP300 D/Cab Workmate 2488cc' . We have had many a conversation with insurance companies - and it comes up wrong on comparison sites too. It's down to either Nissan or the dealership entering the wrong details on a computer somewhere. The ironic thing is - the V5 is correct!
Even Nissan couldn't offer us the free insurance upon collection due to the discrepancy.
Anyway we have a multi vehicle policy (3cars) and pay just over £200 per annum for the truck on SD&P use only.
[I pay less for the group 45 sports car!]
Of course our postcode helps.

It ended up being £500 in the end with DialDirect. Will see what happens next year! Had to pay an extra £40 due to a claim my wife made for a bump in a car park even though she wasnt in it and has protected NCB!

Sounds like a call to the insurance ombudsman is needed, or getting legal advice for the wording of your policy - some insurers rely on the fact that that the cost of challenging them is higher than the charge they add to your bill.... But remember this may affect yout costs for several years to come...

Just wait until these same people are running the privatised NHS, and then try arguing.... I have been there living in the US and have the T-shirt. Which is to say I tend to not give an inch when it comes to my insurance policy.... Thin end of the wedge and all that.

I live in a rural Fenland village with a PE7 postcode 14 miles from P'boro, but another area near Peterborough also has a PE7 postcode, which means ours seems more expensive:

PE Peterborough
1-3, 5, 7, 20, 22 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . C
4, 10, 13-14, 19, 25 . . . . . . . . .. . . . . B
6, 8-9, 11-12, 15-18, 21, 23-24, 26-38 . . . . A

So not fair, I've also collected a few points along the way and are with Admiral, it will be interesting to see what quotes I get then
