Hi All,

Just been offered a 2007 Navara from a farmer friend. It's a VSK chassis and clearly has a lot of rust underneath but have no way of knowing if it's terminal or just superficial. He's had it from new, sailed through MOTs each time (last one was last week). It's in poor cosmetic shape but that doesn't bother me...as long as it's not going to split in half.

Got a flashing 4Hi symbol though. The rear wheels fell like they're locking up when I switch it over so it feels like it's doing something. When I go to 4Lo there is an audible 'clunk'(engaging?), but in both cases the display on the dash flashes. When I go back to 2WD, the icon stops flashing.

Am I possibly going to buy a shed?

Welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't worry about the 4x4 light, it will be the 3 switches on the transfer box, about £70.

You need to be properly sure about the rear end of the chassis. Tapping with a small hammer will tell you if it is rusted badly.

Thanks so much. He has very kindly insured me on it for three days so I'll get a hammer out!! The facts it sailed through its MOT says it's even a dodgy tester or purely cosmetic

Have a look at this post and you can see where it goes. My opinion is that the salt on the roads is the main enemy, so let's likely to affect farmers' vehicles unless the soil is acidic.

Stick a wire brush over the bad areas then stab it with a screwdriver !
Even if its rotten they can be fixed if you know a good welder

Well, I bought the truck!
I've already removed the canopy (sold it the same day) and bunged on some bars and a folding cover.

I need to query a potential leak which I'll post in the right place on here, but for now it's a fun thing to chuck around the potholes of Essex! Given the various jobs that need doing on it, you may be sick of me in no time!!
