Hello,

It's introducing time for me.
I joined this forum because I'm buying a 2018 Navara next week.

I already own a 2011 x-trail with 145000km.

The purpose of acquiring the navara is to have a second car and ultimately take over the x-trail's job as main car.

It has to function as a commuting car, family car for 3 and as a towing car for a 1700kg caravan.

Currently tax law in Belgium is better for pickups than for cars and with all this diesel stuff I would like to acquire a euro 6 engine.
It's also helping that i found a 2018 model at -20%.

So I found enough excuses to buy a new car without my wife beating me to death.
Although now she is looking at me with that special look all day long now.
And it's not that fun one.

I'll do a seperate post about the car.

And as you might have guessed already.
I'm not UK based but live just across the channel in Belgium.

A this point I already used this forum extensively for research purposes.

More questions?
I'm just some clicks away.

It's not about me here but about the Navara

THE NAVARA

Yep, finally got myself a Navara.

It has been an adventure to choose a pickup.
I think most of us are not as brand linked anymore like we used to be.

And there are a lot of good pickups out there.
But which was was good for me?

Liked the ranger for the luxury
Disliked for price and unknown reliability and Ford service.

Liked the hilux because aftermarket possibilities, reliability, second hand value.
Disliked price, engine output and front of car.

Liked L200 for AWD, price, reliability and engine.
Do not really dislike because if above.

Liked Navara for engine output, rear suspension, looks, current own car Nissan x trail reliability.
Disliked for price.

Main story: really liked AWD and price of L200.

But I go to a small Nissan business garage with my X trail with excellent service and went for the Nissan to continue going there.

Unfortunately my garage could not deliver a Navara at the same price conditions as another one. We talk about 4000 euro of difference.

I ended up with a 2018 Tekna, 190BHP, AT, premium leather pack, towing ready, ready to drive in the shop.

Asked for the following accessories:
Plastic bedliner, tailgate assist, rubber floor mats

Still undecided about a webasto preheater.
(Budgetary and common sense reasons about value for money)

Alpha hardtop is on the wishlist for later.
(Budgetary reasons)

Color: black and silver was in stock but I chose the latter for cleaning ease.

Pictures are to follow.

Spotted the car for the first time today.

Nothing fancy, just A Navara.
Hopefully I can call it MY Navara after tomorrow.

Depending on my partial loan at the bank and tax refund at the end of the year modding will begin.

So there will be an update on the subject soon.

Grtz

Welcome.

Great choice... I wanted the silver. It looks great and the chrome details don’t look out of place and cheap as they do on the darker colours. I nearly went new like you as colour is important to me but a used one came up with all the extras I wanted already on it so it made financial sense to go for it.

Hope you enjoy yours. I’m sure you will.

Gone is the money.

Today i paid and set everything in motion. Now my hands are tied and I'm left to the mercy of the dealership.
They have to make the full 13pins connection instead of 13pins but only 7 active, install plastic bedliner, and i did go for a webasto thermo 5 evo+ preheater.

Next on the 'when i got money list':

-Winter tyres and rims (not yet decided which ones)
- Decent tyres: 265/60/18 Yokohama Geolandar G015
- Alpha hardtop (found a secondhand, not yet been used nissan toolbox, not bought yet, as an option to lock some stuff away in the time between)
- bed divider

Dreamlist:
- all the nice/good stuff that i wouldn't need but would make the Navara a world conqueror.

Delivery time.

Yesterday I received my car.

They did not installed everything yet.
Still to do by the end of the month: webasto heater, tailgate assist and auto lock tailgate.

So the story continues.

Exciting to get it on the road...

On bed dividers I would go for one of those webbing ones, the all metal ones restrict the bed too much.

Next job on the Navara:

Placed a carpet in the bed and added a toolbox.
I tried a genuine Nissan toolbox but there was too much play. It could slide sideways for about 10 cm so I didn't buy it.
I found a secondhand Aeroklas Gladiator XL.
It's a tight fit and held on place with two c-channel hooks. No movement at all and no drilling anywhere.

Further update:

- Bought standard D40 rims to fit wintertires. Next week they will be fitted with Nokian WR 4 SUV. Will mount them once winter is coming.

- tailgate assist has been installed.

- Webasto heater has been installed.

Up to the next thing.

Today it was time to address a big suspension issue.

With my hardtop, tow hitch, toolbox and daily stuff in the back I have a load of about 150 kg.
During travelling with my caravan it goes up to 350.

Even with only 150kg in the back I regularly hit the bump stop and the car keeps on bouncing a lot (up to 4 times) after a bump.

I decided to go for EMU springs and shocks.
Springs : 3096 200-400kg (progressive spring)
Shocks: 60137
Fitting kit: fk85

It improved my ride to near perfect with 150kg in the back.

No more excess bouncing (stops after one or two rebounds), stiffer and much more travel (4cm at the moment) available.

It was well worth the money.

While waiting for the car in the shop my eyes could not stop watching all that shiny stuff just waiting to be saved.

I decided to help 2 4SKY led driving flood lights SK147FL to escape on the back of my navara.
They promised to bring some light (18W 1200 lumen each)in to my life when backing up.

Installation of everything took 1.5hr.

Shocks were sprayed in black so they would not immediately seem different from OEM shocks when looked at.

Welkom Poely!

Hello,

I only changed the back coils and shocks.
This because suspension was too soft with my loads.
Leaving the garage it was a lift of 4cm.

Greetz.

Translation:
Ik heb enkel de achterkant gedaan omdat de vering te zacht was met mijn beladingen.
Toen ik de garage uitreed had ik 4cm extra.

Groeten.

It looks like you had the old Series 1 suspension (like me). In Australia, Nissan have had two further revisions of the suspension to include progressive springs, modified bump stops, and revised sway bar. Pretty much what you (and I) have done ourselves.

As yours came from the factory, it was designed to sit on its bump stops at around 400kg payload, and those big rubber knobs took the remaining 600kg. The new arrangement should see the suspension optimised for about 650kg payload and stay off the stops until 800kg.
