Morning all,
I'm currently fitting bike racks to my load bed cover and would like to have decent light available without having to have a lamp bolted to the roof! :(

I'm thinking of asking Si of X-Eng if he would modify his X-Lites to fit in the back of the Roof Rail Tubes, preferably with a slight downward angle.

The X-Lites can be found here http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-Lite.asp?MID=43 and I have four on the front cage of my Land Rover so that whn the plough is attached, I can still see :D - They are very good and provide as much light as my headlights...

Obviously as the X-Lite housing is machined to take a standard 50mm halogen light, any colour of bulb you can get could be fitted and with a bit of imagination, I'm sure you could get the yellow ones flashing (Tomo!).

The reason for this post is to see if anyone else is interested?

i like the idea - I had thought of somthing similar myself - Ive even pryed off the end caps and had a look...

Currently, I have a ***** light (flashing orange light bar) bolted to the immoveable rear 'wing' - I was thinking of using that as a base for the bed lights.

the other alternative I considered was strip lights (12v ones - you can get very cheap ones from PC modding places) under the bed cap, over the C channel rail system - so give a sort of flood illumination, without blinding yourself if you glance in the wrong direction. No doublt theres underbody lighting tubes that are waterproof and tough that would work nicely - Red light BTW is better for night vision.

Thanks for thinking of me there Dunc but Im not using the strobes any more, have taken them out. As they were mounted under the hinges of the snugtop (using the hinge mounts) they were getting in the way of loading. Will probably get Hide-a-leds at some point and punt the strobes on ebay. Thanks anyway.

have been thinking about these lights but I would want them wired in neatly and on a switch on the dash (next to the central locking switch).FF
That was the idea.. Unfortunately, for good reason (tooling costs etc), the manufacturer won't build "one off's" and I didn't get the impression that anyone on here was that keen for us to guarantee a minimum order.

So, I've had the end cap off and can see how it can easily be done but don't currently have the time to sort it at the moment.

Just thought i should mention...

The lights daletur328 is talking about (the magnetic light on12v socket) are selling for ÂŁ3 in woolworths at the moment!

I thought for that price i might as well keep one in the nav!
