Hi all.
I am a new member on here and have recently bought a Navara D40 2006. However i have now discovered that the transfer box has been leaking and has run dry. I have sourced a secondhand transfer box unit and was wondering if any one on here knows how much work is entailed in fitting it? Have been told I need to remove the gearbox to fit the transfer box. Is it just a bolt on job? help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Hello mate welcome to the sit I had a similar prob wen I got my d40. I looked for a transfer box on it's own but found it seemed cheaper and easier to replace gear and transfer together ÂŁ380 for whole unit. But it does look like a bolt on/off job I would remove the gear box to make job easyer. I did min on the driveway with a coupe of jacks and some axle stands oh and a strong mate obviously.
Oh make sure u check the cclutch and flywheel

Transfer box can be removed without removing the transmission.

Steps:
Drain oil, remove all switches connectors, breather hose, porpshafts, crossmember, muffler and then the transfer box.
Replace all seals in the second hand unit before installing it.

That's not good, hopefully you can get the truck fixed and back on the road for a reasonable cost.

Good luck
