as i work in the water industry, the reason why no-one may of spotted it as sometimes when burst mains happen it just washes the underlaying road surface away leaving a cavat and the water is going straight into the ground rather than coming to the surface. on average about 8/10 leaks do not show themselves. i have had a 60,000 ltr an hour leak and that did not show..

As a few of the comments points out, it it was a small car the outcome could have been VERY different.

As for the the bad comments, well it is the sun newspaper. A paper which is aimed at an 11 year olds level of intellect. Says it all really.
