Have just purchased a 09 D40 st-x, while driving my vehicle just cut out - wheels locked up etc, the dash lit up as if you had turned the key to accessories. When turned key off and back on straight away vehicle ran fine. Only has 60,000km and have navara at local nissan dealer - they don't know what the problem is - Do you have any suggestions???
We have suggested cruise control, fuel cut off solenoid, ignition barrell, alternator, ecm spike. So far our local dealer has ruled all of this out.

thanks for your input very helpful - will let nissan dealer know. I will probably get the same response from them, seeing as they have had my vehicle for two days now. Yes the wheels locking up scary. Thankfully this happened in town now when doing 100km.

is it auto, you dont say? If it is it might be the Park inhibitor. The engine cutting out maybe the Quantity control valve faulty, and when the engine cuts out the inhibitor cuts in or a gear box relay or even the torgue converter locking up, assuming its auto

Thank you for all your help - our nissan dealer finally found the issue. It appears that my model has a clutch face as part of the alternator pully it failed causing excess movement with the armourtuer shaft flogging out and touching internals of alternator electrics causing electrical spikes e.g. cutting out, blowing headlights etc. But the funny thing is, it did not blow the 100amp fuses for the alternator. There diagnostics computer only picked up interuption between ECM and modules not explaining what modules. The only way they found it, is we had an A/C noise and when A/C on it was actually the alternator making the noise because it loaded the alternator up so much causing more bearing noise.
Cheers and thank you once again.

I know this failure but never had engine stall because of that, no charging or overheating are the usual concerns when overrun alternator pulley fails and detaches from rotor.

Let us know if engine stalling returns (hopefully it will not…)
