Hello all,
I've been hanging around this website for a little while, I found it whilst searching for info on D22 Navaras as I was looking into buying one I'd seen locally and was trying to find further info on potential problems with them (in particular the big ends!). What a wealth of information there is on here! I thought I'd introduce myself before I make any other posts.
I use a pickup for work (dry stone walling) and had a trusty (albeit clunky) single cab Mk3 Hilux (don't spit!) but due to an increase in family numbers I needed more seats so it had to go, so the search for a twin cab pickup was on! But what to buy? I never liked the look of L200s and they seem a bit clunky, poor fuel economy etc, not too keen on Rangers either, poor economy again and a bit flaky by some accounts, and half decent twin cab Hiluxes that don't look like they've been sat on by an office block are mental money (blame Clarkson!). My mate's got an Isuzu TF which is a good motor but they're like hens teeth. Came across a one owner D22 52 reg with just 33000 on it whilst on a job before Christmas and asked the owner if they were interested in selling it, and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing the deal has finally been done (picked it up Friday).
I love the look of the D22 Navara, also it's not too wide (I've a narrow driveway to negotiate). The power (and refinement) compared to my old Hilux is unreal! Mustn't get carried away (not until Billcar have had their hands on it anyway!). The mpg isn't bad too from what I can gather. It's got all the bells and whistles that I'd want (electrics, climate control, front fog lights etc), plus an armadillo roller cover, tow hitch and chrome roll bar (which will do instead of a ladder rack for the occasional larger item I need to carry, and it looks nicer!). Bodywork wise it needs a little tlc around the back end (dents and few rusty bits), and cleaning and re-rustproofing underneath. Mechanically it seems good (as you'd expect for the mileage), engine sounds very tight (Billcar mods booked in mid March though, don't want to live with that worry!), although I've noticed today the brakes are binding a bit (it's been sat unused for extended periods) so I'll get that looked at. My wife wasn't sure about it when I returned on Friday with it, but after a good clean up on Saturday she likes it now! I've never seen algae growing on a car to that extent!!
Anyway it's early days but so far I'm chuffed with it.
Great work with this website and all the information contained within, particularly all the research and effort gone into trying to solve the infamous thrown conrod problem!
Rob
