OK, ive searched the board before posting this plea for help.

Ive rebuilt the engine of my Navara Sport YD25 engine with bits from Bilcar, first of all, couldnt get it to start, had to get it recovered to Nissan and it turned out to be the immobiliser had lost its memory.

So now it starts, is nice and quiet, doesnt puff out black smoke and doesnt knock, it even drives! but not very well, its gutless, it has no va va voom.

In my search on the boards, I found reference to the NPS on the gearbox, but it seems to only affect 3rd and 4th gears, my navara is gutless in all gears. Ive changed the fuel filter, no difference.

When I rebuilt the engine, I removed all the shims and buckets in the cylinder head and kept them in order so that they went back exactly as they were before.

Any ideas welcome?

I don't know if the timing of the YD25 injector pump can be adjusted :?: :?
maybe someone can enlighten us if we could retard or advance the timing on the injector pump?

only electronically.
with the non-commonrail injection timing often gets retarded due to to much suction on the fuel inlet or to much air in the fuel.

i would check the basics like fuel filter. change filter. check fuel maybe a case of bad fuel. check fuel filter is fitted the right way around. check there is no air being sucked into fuel lines (fit clear fuel hose on IP outlet).

Really need help with this - tried to tow a small caravan last weekend and got overtaken by a series 3 landrover 2.25 diesel!!! The shame of it!

well Ive got the turbo off, its an IHI VN3 RHF4 one, the exact words on the invoice from Nissan says "Vehicle has had engine rebuild elsewhere. check for lack of power when accelerating, doesnt seem to rev up. Traced to Turbocharger wastegate failure, requires new turbo at cost of ÂŁ1588.00" I cannot move the wastegate arm manually, so am going to speak to a couple of turbo rebuilders first thing in the morning.

Well, a quick squirt with the NASA approved penetration oil and I can now move the bar with a pair of molegrips quite easily, not so easily just using my hands, how easily should it open and close?

If you get a pressure source on the actuator, you should seemly move at around 15psi.

Given you are seeing lack of power, I'd chech it's closing fully.
Did you check boost when it was running before you removed??

Cheers Stanton, I didnt have any way of checking turbo boost, which is why I sent it into Nissan, I documented everything that I had done to it, fuel filter, swapped intercoolers over from another NAV, checked the CAM timing, even included photos for them showing the cam timing with the dark blue and yellow links in the right places, so they had a rough idea where to look and only charged me for 15 minutes diagnostics as I saved them the time, they came back and said wastegate failure.

Hopefully if anyone else has a similar situation, this thread maybe of some use to them.
