Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

Just done this to mine :)

To be honest it all looked pretty clean but sprayed it anyways. Will drive it layer and see if there's any difference.

Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

Does anyone do an ecu reset after this or just let it be. I've a few problems with my 4wd and won't get into dealer till new year so don't want to wipe fault codes. I haven't noticed too much of a difference but mine was black.

Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

I haven't reset the ECU but I must admit the idle is smoother now so that's good :D

Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

I had lumpy idle, jumpy pull off in traffic (auto box)

Did the clean and much, much better.

Did the Ecu (pedal) reset and so far so good. Feels really smooth too.

Many thanks for posting the guide.

As most of you know the engines in our Nav's are quite bad for blow-by fumes in the intake. As a result I regularly (every 6 months or so) clean the airflow sensor to keep everything running smoothly. The first time I did it the Nav had 40,000km (25,000 miles) and it was that dirty I couldn't see the colours of the diodes.

This would also be a must for anyone running an aftermarket oiled air filter (ie K&N)

Anyway was doing today so thought I'd write a how to for everyone else.

Tools required are a 7mm spanner and a can of electrical contact cleaner.

First off locate the airflow sensor in the air intake tube just down from the air cleaner.

There is two screws with 7mm hex that need to be undone.(one top and one bottom).

After removing the screws slide the sensor out.

Once the sensor is out look on the side and you will see an opening with a couple of wee diodes inside.

Now get your hands on some Electrical contact cleaner.

Spray the cleaner into the opening.

*****I should mention at this time to never touch the diodes with anything except the electrical cleaner as touching with fingers, rags, cotton buds or anything else can or will damage the sensor.****

Wait for the sensor to dry and the spray to evaporate away and the diodes should be nice and cleaner but if not repeat the spray and allow to dry again.

Now it's just a matter of putting the sensor back into the intake and replacing the screws and your all done.

.

Does the d22 yd25 have one ,if so where?

Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

I did this last week along with a filter change and ECU reset amd my average MPG has gone from 21 to 26 MPG around town and from 25 to 29.6 on the motorway.

Very happy, great advice on here.

Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

Did this to my pathy on thurs and looking at the state of it it needed doing, didn't seem to notice anything at first but drove about fri and today and it definitely seems a lot sharper and the idle is smoother.MPG is still the same tho but i haven't done the ECU reset, not sure it it would be needed.

Thanks to JPMC for this :thumbright:

Re: Airflow sensor cleaning

Nice thinking doing it with a new filter. Did you go aftermarket or standard?
