Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've got a nice new 4x mini spotlights on the way and I'm looking into wiring them up on the old Pathy. The thing I would like to know is what are the legal requirements for them?

Should all four come on with full beam or none at all? I would ideally like all four to come on with full beam and also have a separate switch to turn them on willy nilly.

I've tried searching but mainly its just wiring information for two spot lights but I'm really after the legal requirements.

I understand I need to tap into the headlight high beam cable to switch my relay and I'm sure some clever bean knows wheres best to do this ...... cue Alex ..... :D

My only other questions would be the best place for a feed and where to get through the main bulkhead?

Ok so I've done a quick diagram and if anyone can point me in the direction of the best place to get the following from:

Main Supply.
Main beam feed to switch relay.
Manual feed to switch relay.

That way I can leave them off, with main beam, manual.

Hey Alex just the man :D

I was reading your thread when I saw the email about this reply. Your thread is spot on but it doesn't mention where on the IPDM is it to pick up the headlight main beam supply. Do you know the terminal to connect into?

I was thinking the power socket by the drivers knee as well for the manual switched feed, like you say it should stop the battery going flat by mistake.

Where do you thinks best for the main supply for the lights? Straight from the battery or is there anywhere else better/easier to pick it up?

Ok so the blue and white striped wire it is then :)

I'll go and pop the "hood" now and have a look. I'm only using 55w bulbs so won't be as much as 40A more like 20A.

I didn't flip it because its bolted down.

Onto the battery connection I see what you mean by a lack of space. Did you connect onto the ring terminal that all the other connections are on? I'm not sure loosening that one off as I don't want to kill the supply to everything else and make things loose memory etc.

Ah right I see, so just put the relay in there and the IPDM is at the back there. I think its terminal 55 I need to join into.

Where was the hole you used to get into the cabin area?

hope this helps, its how my rear spotlights are wired up, and also how the front ones will be wired when my bar shows up.



the way its wired lets me put them on with the headlights or seperately.

Hey bud :)

Your going for the two relay method then, I'm going to stick with the three position switch and one relay. I can get a 3 position switch for free so will do the job fine.

Looking forward to The lights arriving now and getting this done :D

All the wiring is in and done. Just need the lights and switch now :)

No one has mentioned that so I'm just going to leave the switch in the off position come MOT time.

When we had a mini with spots on the front they only canton with full beam so I guess that's the rule :)

I'm going to go for leaving the switch off when its MOT time :)

Yea wirings all done and working just gotta play the waiting game for the lights :(

Dont know if you already mentioned it but what lights did you go for in the end - and what are the roof lights, i just read about in another thread...?

I've not said what lights I'm getting yet, going to wait until its all done and fitted :)

The other lights I have are Recon LED cab lights. You can see them in the picture on my sig and better pics in the members section.
