My month old new Tekna wouldnt start this morning...flat battery!
Odd, I thought as it was only run yesterday.

Called out Nissan Assist, who use RAC and he got it going.
Once recharged he did a test on the charging and battery and all was fine.

He found that the standing discharge was far too high...nearly half an amp...
So something is discharging the battery when turned off at a rate of nearly half an amp...

Anyone else had this?

Erm only when the kids left the rear roof lights on by the grab handles

He ran the engine for about half an hour then measured the charge rate. that appeared ok.
He turned the engine off and left it for 10 minutes then disconnected the negative side of the battery. A meter was put in series to measure the current drain.

The vehicle was closed up, bonnet closed and keys out of ignition.

All the lights were off. The current drain was .47 amps. Apparently the acceptable limit is 0.1 amp drain...?

The battery was then reconnected, tested with all lights on, windows down etc and it held a good charge.

During the drain measurement everything we could see was off. So his analogy is that there is something, probably software driven, that is not closing down properly causing the battery to slowly get lower and lower in charge and eventually failing to start the engine.....?

Once the meter was connected in series it was left for 5 mins. He checked all was off...lights etc and the current draw was still apparently too high.

Spoke to the dealers again today and the best they can do is take it in a week on Thursday...!
