Evening all
I am putting together a sticky post to cover the most popular question regarding the d22 and the places and points to look at for a solution the aim is that when its finished all d22 owners can open one topic and read through for an answer to their d22 problem, hopefully to cut down on time using the search engine and having to read through page after page. I am going through all the d22 posts in the technical section and copying and pasting the relevant topics then cutting out all the banter in-between to provide quick bullet points to certain problems when the post has been completed as you scroll down the page each problem will have a header and all the possible solutions and all the feed back will be under that topic. Going to take time but working on it.

One thing that comes up quite a lot is the banjo fuel filter does anybody have pictures of its location or a how to, it has been covered a lot but some pictures would be good

Or if some of the wiser d22 owners would like to post a how to then it well be included into the D22 bible.

Also if any d22 owners have any handy tips and guides then all information will be collated into one place for a reference point.

Regards all
Paul

On the TD25 engine fuel pumps there is a very small ‘micro’ filter within the injector pump.
The gauze on this filter is very, very fine, about 1 micron, so getting it clean is a barstool. As it is so fine the sediment build-up within it is very slow and therefore the drop in performance of the engine is impossible to notice over time. The first time you know you’ve a problem is when you’re hard accelerating and it’s not pulling but there’s black smoke, leaning off to white smoke. All the signs of injector problems or head gasket but it’s not.
If you follow the fuel supply to the pump you’ll find it connects to a ‘banjo’ fitting. Remove the hollow bolt retaining the ‘banjo’ and look inside the pump housing. This ‘micro’ filter is VERY small, about the size of a cigarette filter, normally made of plastic on later engines or brass on early engines. Get something to hook it out with. A large safety pin with the end bent over will do the trick to hook it out.
Once it’s out you can try to clean it but the gauze is SO tiny most people do away with it and re-fit the ‘banjo’ assembly and make sure they change the normal larger fuel filter regularly to keep the pump clean.
Hope this info is helpfull.

i thought the micro filter was to catch the **** from the main filter which loses parts of itself ( i.e. parts of the filter matrix) The filter would be best retained i think

Totally agree with you Tony :thumbleft: however it's impossible to get a replacement and trying to clean the old one out is nigh on impossible due to the size and fragility of it. The mesh is microns in size and even using/trying different solvents and very high pressure air I've never had 100% success :( The old brass ones in early TD25's are a bit more robust for cleaning but the later plastic ones fitted to TD25Ti engines get damaged :( and you're forced to 'junk' it.

Probably best to a disposable inline filter, couple of quid each, you can get quite large ones which will last for ages.
Yup, that could be an idea Digger, to act as a secondary 'catch net' for any possible debris :thumbleft:

Personally I feel that if the main fuel filter is changed every 18,000 miles as it should be then all should be fine as the later YD25 system is much the same and it's pump no longer has the 'banjo micro filter' fitted within the pump body assembly :|

Are you after info on all D22 engines ?

I mainly know the ZD30DDT and the TD27 and QD32 though.
Hi Dave
Any information you have on these trucks would be more than welcome, I suggest you start a new post along the lines of how to for the ZD30DDT – TD27- QD32
This way you can post any handy tips you have for the above plus any how to do post and also simple fixes for common problems.
You can then add to it as many times as you like, also if other members have information on the above they can add to as well.
We will make it into a sticky post so it is easy to find and anybody with helpful tips can add to it
So we can create a one stop post for members to have a look at for answers
Also if the post gets to cluttered with chat not relevant to the above or goes off topic I can clean it up for you and just keep the important stuff :thumbleft: :thumbleft: :thumbleft:

Thats a great idea what your doing Paul. Reading the first post i was gonna say ''wait for Woz'' but he's answered :D (he's a good un)
Sometimes, people may get confused by D22 as there is Mk1 & MK2 (D23) not that many of us are lucky enough to own one!!! (MK1 that is)
There is quite a lot of difference with the face lift & pre face lift, so when refereing to D22, it could get a bit conflicting!
Could we not have a section for both?
