Hi

Just wondered if anyone knows of problem, possibly with rear diff making a rumbling sound when cornering especially noticeable when reversing around corner.
Should both wheels turn in same direction by hand when jacked up off ground, I would expect them to go opposite direction, there is no manual diff lock on this vehicle that I know of.

Sounds like you need to change the rear diff oil. Be sure to use LSD oil as there's an LSD on the rear diff which is why both wheels spin in the same direction when turned by hand :thumbright:

new diff oil makes all the difference, rumble free again, must do front diff and gearbox

thanks again
Rear LSD oil should be changed every 32,000 miles or sooner if you use the truck off-road or tow alot.
Many diff's fail because of this oil change being over looked. Even the Nissan stealerships have been known to fail to change the oil on sevice intervals!
Glad you caught your's in time :)
Woz

Which oil did you use?
My rear end rumbles and groans. The groaning happens when I'm turning corners and is directly related to wheel rotation. One groan per rotation of the rear wheel.
thanks

All that moaning and groaning and rumbling from the the rear axle was cured by replacing the oil with LSD oil. No idea what's been in it for the last 5 years but its now as quiet as anything.
Thanks for the advice.
Who'd have thought the right oil would make so much difference!

I've done about 15k miles on the Comma LSD oil now and the axle has been quiet since I changed the oil.
Good news :thumbleft: remember to replace it every 32,000 miles or sooner if you do heavy towing or lots of work off road

Hard to tell mate but it's either a bearing or the LSD trying to work but can't
Maybe it's got no LSD type oil in it at all or the oil is so old it's lost it's lubricating properties :pale:
I'm sure when you drain it you'll soon see an indication of what's wrong with it being black in colour and almost like a grease unlike an oil it should be :!:
You've got little to loose so drain it, fill it with LSD specific oil and run it for about 50 miles and work the diff as in your video to flush out all the cr@p, drain it and refill again with fresh oil :|
You may get lucky and save the diff :fingersx if not come back and we'll go from there :thumbleft:

Also take the time to introduce yourself to the rest of the forum please :thumbleft:
