Girlfriend followed me up the road last night and told me my brake lights weren't working (keys in the ignition or not  ), checked all the fuses and they were ok so had a play about with the switch on the brake padal and they started to work again, but after a couple of presses they stopped again, would appear that the switch must be jamming and needs a 'flick' to release it.
Going to try the dealer tomorrow to see if they will send me a switch instead of having to trail away in and waste half a day..........whats the bet they wont do it and give the usual line of bringing it in to have a look and then ordering in the part and having me come back a week later!

Tried some silicone spray on it yesterday but no joy, the plunger its self isnt sticking, must be inside the switch. Missed the service dept today so will have to wait till Monday, probably will end up doing what Greasedonkey said but ÂŁ20 seems to be the price of a switch on ebay........and I am Scottish!

The dealer can bill Nissan for an hour or more of labour for doing the job under warranty if you call in to them. That's why they won't just post it out to you. I'd still ring them and try to put pressure on them. Tell them they'll have to pay for your fuel, loss of earnings etc if you have to travel to them to get it fitted.

Although, to be fair to them, you could be ordering it for your friend that has a D40 out of warranty!

I have no friends  I know what you mean though, suppose they cant just send out parts to anyone with a vehicle thats under warranty without checking it's actually for that vehicle! If they watch my snow brake test post they will see my brake lights not working!

Phoned the dealer today, pretty much got the answer I expected..........bring it in so we can diagnose the fault and then we will order the part and get you back in to fit it once we have the go ahead..........computer systems are great sometimes!!

Found a switch on t'internet for ÂŁ7.66inc postage, not a big cost but still p*sses you off when the truck is only 10 weeks old!
