Hi a relative newbie here so be gentle as I have tried doing searches but cannot get the exact sort of information I am seeking.

Engine,

1. The 2.5 DCi seems to be a reliable lump, but does it suffer from oil regurgitation issues like I see from the PCV of most modern diesels where oil is sucked through into the inlet stream and inlet manifiold which (in my current Vectra CDTi 1.9 Fiat engine to quote one) causes the swirl valves inlet throttle body and intercooler to become clogged with sludge.

2. EGR if this is blocked does this engine throw up a CEL it does on the Vectra but blocking it is majorly beneficial on long runs, but economy round town suffers as the exhaust gas is not there to fill the cylinder volumes hence more fuel is needed.

3. Half shafts? Well any info on the things I have heard

4. Clutches does the mighty Nav have a dual mass flywheel as again on modern diesels these seem a massive and almighty c*** up of a thing.

5. timing belt or chain? and change intervals

6. Rear diff issues? as it is a locker does it give many concerns?

My sincere thanks to you in advance.

1. dunno
2. nope
3. post 07 plate are fine
4. Dual mass - gives problems, again on early ones
5. "For life" but recommended at 100,000 miles
6. Not a locker, its LSD, an rarely gives trouble if oil is canged regularly ans LSD oil is used

Thanks Rob

1. I have found that the oil is a major issue on VW, Merc and Fiat (Vaux, Saab being the same) and designed a small mod that though not MOT legal means that the only way to now get oil contamination into the inlet is if the Turbo bearings fail! just wondered about that.
2. Brilliant!
3. as above
4. thanks
5. that's long enough
6. sorry meant a slipper not a locker, but grand I can cope with all of these happily.

1. My previous car was a vectra Sri cdti and I had to replace the manifold due to the sut build up, navaras don't seem to suffer as severley as cdti's but.... See 2

2. Iv blocked my egr valve off on my navara and can't see any downsides

3. Yes they can go but not as big a problem to fix as there are lots of alternatives, ie billcar engineering do them and you can also replace the seals yourselves, the main issue seems to be the breather being blocked on the axle so make sure it's free

4. Yes it's a dual mass but there are single mass kits out there if that's your preference

5. Timing chain

6. Only some have diff lock and diffs don't appear to be a regular fault
