Thanks Niall,
Good job, I can't wait for your next installment after you have changed the rears, should be even better with a balanced set.

Hi all. Have now been able to change the rear shocks too (simple job) and what a difference! The whole vehicle is now a much better ride - even the 5-year-old backseat driver had to agree! And the handling is so much better. I though it was my wheel balance/tracking that was out, but clearly not.

So in summary, for under ÂŁ150 I cannot recommend this mod enough.

Next up I'll be fitting a double din head unit and rear number plate camera! Then working out how to connect my iPhone to it for sat nav.

Only problem now is that having been underneath the truck I can see that a new back (and maybe centre too) box is needed. Anyone know the benefit of a stainless system over normal?

I've got a stainless system on my nav, the benefits? Well it has a lifetime waranty for as long as I own the truck, doesn't rot and it also cost a hell of a lot less to have it made and fitted than it did to get one from nissans. I paid 400 for it, at the time Nissans wanted 1600 for a complete system. I believe there are several good suppliers on ebay that supply stainless systems for the nav.

Thanks for that - I definitely think stainless is the way to go if I have to replace the whole lot. If I can get away with just the back box, I probably won't bother (not sure you can mix and match anyway, can you?)

I bought a complete S/S one from Ebay for ÂŁ265 (from memory) including fitting kit!
Proper S/S magnet falls off!
Well made, I just had to cut about 40mm off one pipe for a perfect fit, it is of a bigger bore than the original, so I had to re-adjust the hanging brackets, the ones I made several years ago after Mr Nissans rotted away.
Only sometimes when shutting off the engine and it shudders do I get a couple of knocks onto the crossmember, but this does not always occur and is due to sqeezeing a quart into a pint pot.
Again from memory I think I had to use 65mm clamps.
I did a lot of research and thinking before buying, there were several on ebay, but I reckon they are all made by the same far eastern company and imported by different sellers.
I have no complaints at all with it and am well pleased.
I was lucky and got it by auction.

Quick update. Drove the breadth of the country in the last couple of days with the EGR mod done, freewheeling hubs (set to free obviously) and new shocks all round.

Did around 360 miles on 3/4 tank of fuel - worked out at 30-31 mpg. Didn't change the driving style much and sure I could have been a bit lighter on the foot (especially round those Milton Keynes roundabouts!).

Unfortunately I haven't got a "before" to compare it with, so would be interested how that compares with other d22s.

does any one know this size of the fuel tank on the d22's.

Big :study:
Sorry mate just playing around

Can you get longrange tanks over there ?

I have a 125L tank in my D22, considering getting a 95L for the other side under the vehicle.

220L would give me a safe range of 2000km's.

not really, we would need to get a custom made one, but no body would ever need it as there is a diesel station at least every 100 miles because our countries (UK and Ireland) are so small.

Cheers, I like the longrange tank as I can fill up where I know the fuel is good.

Cheaper then a new injection pump and injectors.

Thats the method to my madness anyway. Haha.
