Hi everyone. I'm going to do an engine rebuild on my 02 plate D22. It is tapping but luckily no con rod through the block. I've read all the really helpful advice on here and will do everything that is sugested about con rod bolts and O rings etc. I normaly rebuild vw 20v turbo engines so I am not a beginner. I would just like to know if someone could tell me if I should change the cam chain and/or the diesel pump chain while I've got the engine in pieces. Thank you in advance.

I'd contact your local dealer and get them to check the data base to see if yours has had the tensioner modification, as the early YD25's suffered from this up to around late 03 reg :thumbright:
Other than that have a good look at the chain condition, wear on the guides and slack and make your decision  I'm sure you'll know if all is not well :salute:
Woz

When i did the big end mods on mine i fitted a complete new timing chain set. Incase you dont already know, contact Billcar Engineering and ask for Dave, he is spot on :thumbleft:

My chain set cost ÂŁ300+VAT form there (2 years ago), and was worth every penny IMO with reqards to peace of mind.

A second hand engine will cost ÂŁ1500 minimum so not worth skimping on the chain set mate.

Mark.
