So my trip to deapest darkest devon yesterday didn't do the truck any good. I may have been 'pushing on' a bit but ........... on the way to the kids swimming this morning i noticed a lot of dust/smoke behind the nav, no other vehicle seemed to have it so thought i'd better pull over and see what's what ...............

Coolant everywhere, all over the engine bay, low level in the header tank, steam all over  I can't see a problem, but it didn't over heat so i hope it's not too serious, burst pipe or summat, i topped it up and went back home (slowly). However what concerns me more is the belt between the engine and fan with a few pulleys on (i'm not a mechanic) ...

(sorry for poor photoshop arrow), but this belt seems very freyed along 1 edge, looks worse than the pics show

Lets see what the local stealer says tomorrow :pale: :pale:

you getting very good on the old computer thingy pics and now arrows wot next
hope you get it sorted mate :study:

Can't really tell from the pick is it deffinantly frayed or is it just coverd in white muck?
If its frayed then waterpump could have seized, but this would normally cause it to overheat before blowing a pipe off.
Its also possible if steam was blowing streight onto the belt it has just melted the rubber off it

Best of luck getting it sorted, its waranty i trust?

Recon poss prob with water pump and cap on radiator has hit its limit at ****** coolant everywhere! Can u see where coolant is coming from bud?

Either that or thermostat has failed or for some reason the rad cap has become week?! Look like coolent has come from rad cap going by coolant stains on fan cowling! These caps are designed to break at certain pressure\ temp

Had another quick look before i ring the dealer. Can't see any split hoses etc, but the belt is def on it's way out ...

It's only about 3 miles to the dealer, but just need to check with them if it's ok to drive it over - what happens if this belt does break :?:

Oh, let the carry on begin  My local place are very concerned about me driving the Nav incase the belt snaps, but they don't have a recovery service, so have advised me to ring the AA. Rang them (i am a member), thought there was going to be a problem because she said "so you aren't actually broken down", let me put you on hold while i speak to someone else   . Anyway, it turns out it's ok, and someone will be with be by 10-15 ............... update to follow :thumbright:

Stick the kettle on Nick, could be a long weight!

btw do you remove the 22's whenever it goes to the dealer?

I didn't when it went in at 1 year old for an oil and filter change. But i was having a big mental debate with myself for an hour or so this morning ... do i risk the 22's buggering up a warranty claim, or do i spend half hour taking them off and not risk it .............. i decided not to risk it. I did phone my salesman mate in there who knew i had the 22's on, he said as it's not transmission/suspension etc, it should be fine, but if i was worried i should take them off. When peeps where talking about water pump etc, it sounds like it could be expensive, so i just didn't want to give them any excuse to get out of the warranty .............. lets see what happens

22's shouldn't make any difference to warranty claims mate, dealer will even put 22's on a brand new truck as an extra if required, but i do understand why you'd be concerned. Where most dealers are concerned, it's best not to chance anything

What a load of ****!! There's no way that belt should be like that already!!

I just had mine replaced today but it's done 95k so I'm happy with that :)

Quick update. They rang this morning after having a look at it last night. Bear with me, i'm NO mechanic, They tell me that a 'tensioner pully' has failed causing the belt to frey, and has (somehow  ) 'ripped off' a coolant pipe. So it needs to have a new tensioner pully, belt, power steering belt and coolant pipe. The parts have been ordered and should be in tomorrow. They can't tell if any other damage has occured untill it's back together. Should know by the end of the week ............. i hope.

Oh yes, and it's all covered by warranty :D :D :D

Just been reading the courtesy car thread, what a knob, why didn't i ask for one when my truck went in. I want to try a Pathfinder, to see what it's like   (i don't need a courtesy car, but that's beside the point  )
