just noticed strang noise on my d 22 and had trouble starting it .drtove about half mile and noticed oil dripping out of it .when i opened the bonnet i could see the timing chain exposed.i was wandering does this mean engine replacement or is it possible to fix it. and also what could of caused it to break any ideas would be great.
i think it might be the back cover but not 100% certain.

Just guessing that you mean the timing chain cover breaking? if so it is possible that your timing chain tensioner is :censored: causing the chain to contact the cover, you may get away with just a new tensioner and TC cover but dont drive it as will have lost alot of oil.

Nissan had a 'campaign' (more properly called a recall!) for defective timing chain tensioners.
Yours may never have been replaced and so Nissan may still be liable, worth contacting them first, if so be loud and DON'T get fobbed off!

THE TENSIONER FAILED BENT THE VALVES SO ENGINE HAVING FULL REBUILD AS IT HAS TO COME OUT TO TAKE BACK TIMING CHAIN COVER OF .HAVING NEW BOTTOM END BEARINGS AND UPRATED BOLTS,JUST IN CASE IT WASNT DONE AT SMK. HOPEFULLY BE BACK ON THE ROAD NEXT WEEK

Regrinding YD25DDTi cranks is a sure fire recipe for failure!
There is plenty about this on here, it just does NOT work.
You are lucky to have found out before the block got holed.
This is just another clear example that SMK don't have a clue!
Was the chain tensioner also the work of SMK?
Have a look at the end cap markings, do you have a full matched set i.e. marked 1,2,3,&4?
Or have you got a bitsa i.e. 2x1's, 2x2's etc.

hi looks like its just a bad engine rebuild ,sumps been welded ,oil pump was weak and caused the chain to rattel and then made tensioner failed, not sure about end caps i will find out with bret riely today hope fully they will be right but then it was done by smk after all!

They have previous of using the parts from many engines, including current customers to knock one together!
Re: the oil pump I have seen low pressure on YD25DDTi's caused by careless use of sealant partially blocking the oilways.
