Mine would be a Dodge Ram, in fact it was my first choice but just not practical, too thirsty etc.
So being practical i quite like the look of the Isuzu Rodeo, i think the Hilux looks ok too, no way the L200 though, that thing is so f**king ugly!

Shooter...........shoot that peice of ****!

Hi guys,

We seem to use most makes of pickups here at work, but for some reason not the Nissan  and luckily not the new ugly L200.

The Isuzu and Chevrolet (same as the Isuzu – all most) are both ok for road driving and not bad on comfort, but saying that quite a few of the older Chevy’s seem low in power, you need to get the valves bouncing to make them pull away anywhere like the others. :D

But for off roading, they have no power (gutless wonders) you find you are using low range 4 x 4 on hills the others just walk up. Their ground clearance is also very low. Where as the new model Hilux is better for the tracks, has diff lock and the good old manual section of the 2 and 4 wheel drive and range selection. :D

We still have some of the older L200 and Hilux’s some with around 300,000klm and still going strong. One of the patrols here recently received the new Isuzu but swapped it for the newish Hilux due to its better off road capability and the reasons described above. :D

I understand most of the members on here buy mainly for road driving so these differences will not make a lot of difference in what one you buy, but I have to agree that My Nissan is fair better than any of the other for looks, comfort and power. And having tested the D40 in some of the track areas we have, it beats the Chevy’s and Isuzu’s hands down.

So depending if I wanted to use a truck on or off road my choices would be the Hilux for more off road work and I guess the Isuzu for more road work. But hey this is just me.

other than the nav, id have the roedeo, as my dad had one when they first come out and it was bullet proof!

The new L200 is small, under powered and it looks like it been sandwiched by 2 HGVs

The Hilux is ok looking, and better performance wise since the put the 3.0 in it, bet it thirsty thou!!. Wheels are to small for the massive arches it has and the equiment level isnt as good as the nav along with the interior build quality!

some of the american trucks are very nice, but just not pratical with the size of the engines and the size of the trucks!! I seen a Dodge ram i think it was with a twin rear axle parked in a car park a few months back and wait for it..................it was taking up 4 parking spaces!!!

I have had the pleasure of owning or driving most of the currant line up of Jap Trucks ,for me i all ways had a soft spot for the Isuzu Rodeo ,but my younger brother had a 3.0 Toyota hilux out new in 2007 and although not as loaded spec wise or quite as fast as a D40 it is a real nice truck and its Finnish is something the d40 can only dream of IMO ! 8)

so robbie, you were dreaming about the same truck? i would stuff the engine from it into a d40(if it could fit) or a toyota tundra and work with that. :mrgreen:edit, so i see that you have one upped mr ford, looks good coming through the bush, too large to be practical. wonder how it handles?
Yeah I was dreaming about the ford but then I looked at it and thought WIMP! So I Found one with knobbly tires and a winch.

LOL imagine driving the nav with an engine that big. You'd need a periscope to see over the bonnet. AAUUGH and the drifting!!!!

Imagine the warranty you’d have to be so good at blagging.

“Mr Nissan I’m not happy my clutch has gone for the NINTH time! What in gods name are you going to do about it”!

“Well sir we changed you door lock sanded you paint work even though we only had mud and water to do it with but there was one thing our muddy water told us”

“Go on!”

“Well it seemed to think you bonnet looked funny. Kind off 8liter, twin turbo, super charged, nitros injected, hamster wheel pumped, 4 lorry exhaust shaa……….
SLAP!!!

Ped”.

(awkward silence, think of something fast to get out of this situation) :|

“MR NISSAN. Do you think muddy water can tell you that you fool. Its obvious that my clutch went purely because your pants at everything. FIX MY TRUCK UNDER WARRENTY and your micra still have one! Tyre.

Oh sir you’re too kind, why did we think it was a ford 650 engine our system must be down, not enough mud perhaps have a free navara platinum to you can drive through the **** courtesy cars that we are not obliged to give you but we do out of the kindness of our little hearts.

Sorted! 8)

As I bought mine recently and don't really need a pickup other than to reduce my tax liability I can honestly say I would buy anything else. I could not believe it at first but anything else drives very vague really like a van. Also none of the others have proper dual zone climate control which is a must. The rear bench is truly the most useful and car like in an l200 but the drive is so poor that I can't believe they sell any. To be honest the rear bench in the navara is still a compromise but a lot better than the isuzu or toyota or ford/mazda.

I was considering some American options but by the time you have done a rhd conversion you are talking silly money and I might as well buy a q7 to keep the wife happy. No for the money at much less than 20k for an aventura prior to the tax benefits you'd be mad buying anything else. Truly utterly mad, I honestly don't understand why anything else gets sold as the competition is dearer and not as good.

So my final answer is that at the moment I would not buy anything else.
