Hi I'm new a big HELLO to everyone and what a site

Can anyone help my mechanic fitted a new exedy clutch kit for me today I opted for a solid mass flywheel as I have been reading posts on here before he started I mentioned about the caution needed to replace the new flywheel and he said yes no problem as if he new about this so I left it in his hand he is a friend of mine and he has always looked after all my cars and I have always been very satisfied with his work anyway when I went to pick up my truck he had a ECU reader on it because the revs were down, it came back with a crank sensor fail code it was late in the day so can't do anything until tomorrow,
My question is could the flywheel be fitted wrong as he seems to think it can only be fitted one way because it has a locating pin in it maybee it could be 180 out but I would think that the truck would not start at all if this was the case or is it more likely to be the sensor gone down I just don't want to buy a sensor if it's likely to be a different problem

Can anyone advise also is anyone using a exert solid mass conversion are they any good?

My truck is a 57 plate adventura manual done 35000 miles

Thanks in advance and sorry if going over old ground !

That seems like a strange one, if the flywheel is in the wrong place i dont think the truck will start at all as the injection timing would be way out but i belive it is possible to get it wrong. Most lightly that he has damaged the crank angle sensor, did he remove it before he started as recomended?
The only thing is that again if damaged the trucks wont normally start, although there is no reason why the ecu cant get the crank position off the camshaft angle sensor as allot of vehicles will if the crank angle sensor is bust, I have never damaged one personally so dont know about the navara. maby someone will be able to confirm if the truck will run with out the crank angle sensor.
Obvious answer is to disconnect it, if the engine still runs then the chances are its been bust.
The only other posibility is if the reluctor ring has been put on the flywheel wrongly or is damaged and causing a poor reeding

Hi thanks for your reply I will ask him to try unplugging the sensor and see wot happens he said he removed the sensor before removing box but I don't know and the timing ring came already fitted to the flywheel

maybe the replacement flywheel doesn't suit the sensor?

Glad it was an easy cheap fix and all sorted mate :thumbleft:
Exedy clutches have a very good reputation so I'm sure you've no worries there :thumbright:

I just inspected the clutch I took off, the flywheel and pressure plate are scorched to death and the clutch itself is worn quite bad but still had a bit of meat on it the flywheel had about 10mm play between springs and slight play in bearing but to look at you can still see all the machine lines in both flywheel and pressure plate it was like the clutch plate itself was not being compressed sufficiently

I don't tow and I only do very light off road and I don't ride my clutch so 35000 was pathetic the only thing I can put it down to is when I bought it at 9 months old 12000 miles the last owner brought my attention to how it had a new tobar and the towball had never been used  wot ever I recon he had been towing something heavy

Anyway whilst inspecting the clutch stamped on the pressure plate was EXEDY oh no :pale:
Its these clutches that Nissan use originally hope this setup does better than first one, the only plus is the solid mass flywheel hope this makes a difference.

Also thanks for your replies it's appreciated very much...

previous owner probably rid that clutch with no lube. yes Nissan used exedy clutches that are far to small for this truck so the flywheel can not dissipate the heat, so the one you fitted will be fine as the solid flywheel has nothing to go wrong.

Hi Alex :thumbleft:
First time I noticed was after about an hours drive into north Wales I had to reverse up an inclined driveway and the clutch started slipping half way up

The second time I Drove for about 2 hours from Liverpool to anglesey and I had to park in a field with very tall grass it had been raining so I put it in 4wd just incase the ground was soft and the clutch started burning up the smell was very bad and I was only in tall grass the truck should have had no problem with that, the strange thing was though on the road the truck ran well I think the clutch must have been slipping slightly on the long drives putting heat into it so when I asked that little bit extra from it it just couldn't handle it

Cheers,
On mine the clutch isnt really slipping but its juddery trying to set off and the pedal is very hevey, have got most of the stuff to do it but just trying to get abit more life out of it as its not slipping yet
