Has a D40 ever been extended sucessfully? The pictures show a D22 crew cab with a single cab body.
Would a limo converter company be the best to do this?

We have a company that sells the camping cabins for pickuptrucks. They convert the trucks so that the bed can be removed completely and the cabin is mounted directly onto the frame. They offer to extend the frame of the D40 by 40cm to accomodate a bigger cabin and better handling for around 7k€ if i remeber correctly, it's no longer in their current price list but still on the website. The price was only for the extended frame, not including a matching bed. maybe one of the long bed US-Versions might fit.
So yes, it's possible to stretch a D40, but it isn't cheap and seems to not be an all inclusive happy package.
 
If you use the search engine, i think there is a thread I started as I was going to do it a while back. There maybe some useful info in that cos if i remember quite a few gave me advice on it.
It does look really good IMO, the pics I have are of a MK1, 1 with twin rear axle & 1 with single axle.
 
In order to be registred as a lorry, all recently sold full size double cabin Navaras in my country have a longer - how do you call it - bed. Its lenght must be at least half of the wheelbase. So my Navara (and all others) have 1.600 mm long bed. Not a conversion, they come like this from the factory.
This is not exacttly the limo conversion, but it is some additional lenght.

What part of Ireland are you in?

You could try a coach builder. The type of company that builds ambulances and camper vans. Or maybe talk to someone in haulage. I know they sometimes have to change the length of the chassis on a large rigid, depending on what's going to be put on it. The companies that do that kind of work would be qualified to sign off the paperwork etc.

Bit of advice: If you are going down the route of getting it converted aftermarket, buy the truck in Northern Ireland and get the coach builders to change the GVW to 3,500kg. That way you get a UK spec Navara (which is better than Irish spec) for a lower price, and with your GVW at 3,500kg you'd only have to pay €200 VRT instead of €4,700 like I did.

Just as tad says....
We used to stretch our rigids to take a 30ft box (removals etc) , get a coachbuder to do the work and they will sort the minefield of paperwork that goes with it.
Doing it on the cheap is not a good idea, a coach builder will work out wheelbase, propshaft requirements to make it a faultless conversion. I wouldn't wanna stretch a Nav without a centre bearing mount on the prop.
 
When i was at Thorntons the other week getting my new bed fitted I was pondering over the idea of fitting a single cab bed but on further inspection, it does actually need a fair bit of modification to get a flush & correct fit.
Its not a too difficult job though :thumbright:
 
I would think any of the companies that modify vans would do this for you now problem. We have a company locally that offers a bed lift as well for the Nav :)
