No mate not common at all, the most common leak at the front end is the rubber PAS cooler pipes leaking :(
You might 'get lucky' by 'nipping' up the bolts on the timing cover as it's a rubber gasket

Bad luck mate :(
Look on the bright side.....atleast it's not the rear main oil seal :|

Don't forget that when an oil and filter change occurs, there is an oil catch tray around the filter housing base, that then should drain oil through a hose to where ever, not all the oil gets drained from this tray immediately it can take a few days during which time oil gets blown all over the place, lastly make sure the drain hose is present.

X2
I tend to shove a bit of rag into the recess/catch tray following a filter change to soak up this oil Chris mentions :thumbright:
Also present in this area is the engine oil cooler (to the right of the filter) which could be a possible suspect.

Further investigation to my oil leak!! Started to look at where my car could be leaking, only to find the crank pulley nut loose. I could turn it with my fingers it was so loose! I'm hoping this will have cured why it was leaking the oil, will wait and see! Apparently ive heard from a few local garages that this is one of the first signs of the engine crank breaking! (fingers crossed)

Oooh...errr!
So yours is un-modded then :nailbiting
Get it done or there will be :cry

Back to my oil leak! The crank pulley nut was loose I could undo it with my fingers! So something has strangely vibrated it loose. Anyhow on tightening up the bolt has now cured the leak!! Very strange!
common fault on the 2.8 shogun's.
