I know these trucks are reknowned to be a bit of a rattler, but bejeezus, mine sounds awful.

Rattly, breathy - always sounds like a cold diesel engine. Would love to hear someone else's to compare. 2011 facelift btw, bought with 7k on the clock - been serviced at 15k, but almost sounds like it has no oil in it - thinking the injectors might be ******, as it does seem underpowered (also have ongoing doubts in my mind as to why it ended up at a Mitsubishi stealers at 10 months old and 7k on the clock).

You must remember, the navara is an old school body on chassis cart sprung truck. IT was never designed to be as comfortable or as quite as a car, It has had car comforts thrown on it but underneath the steering wheel buttons it's still a d21 with added tech and a modern engine. There's only so much nissan can do to make a truck drive and sound like a car. Im sure you have tried the injector reset so the next step in reducing injector noise is to have the injector pipes and the top of the engine wrapped in sound deadening heat resistant foam as is done on other vehicles. some stick on sound deadening on both sides of the bulk head will help alot as it's pretty bare as standard.

that's of course if there is no other under laying problem.

Its throaty but not as noisy as Bob snoring

(& mine's 12 years old with 111k on the clock.)

Changed to fully syn oil (5W-40) and the truck purred ever since. :)

Now I just have to sort the squeaks from the leafsprings. :(
