body lift or lift kit?

Hi all, I guess this has been done to death? wanted some braided hoses for the brakes and came accross the lift kit, now i want one. do i do a body lift (truck not me lol) or one of the spacer kits for suspension? also if i bought long hoses can i run them without the lift kit? many thanks, muzz

I've just picked up a body lift personally im gonna have a go with that first then will progress to suspension lift once pennies come in

i made my own lift kit buy copying the ones for sale. 2" spacers at front and 2" hangers at rear. i also made some 2" blocks for the rear which ive yet to fit just to give it that bit extra. i had to get the tracking set on the front but it drives perfect. the extra clearance is handy when i go shootin and when im driving round the woods gettin logs

mate im from the sunderland area ...wouldnt care ive just been up me mates up killcreggan not too far from helensbrough i could have dropped you some off monday gone,i got roughly 300 at the weekend

with a 4"lift in the rear will it look odd? loving the side exit pipe. your wheels and truck are the same colour! guess great minds think alike.

forgot to say its a 06 d40. was going to get the 2.5" lift front and rear from llama 4x4. £185 ish. read some kits come with different bolts for the camber /castor correction. will 2.5" lift affect this? also there are some spacers on begay but with no bolts. where can you buy correct bolts and u bolts? cheers :bowdown1

so ive just read its better to get new leaf springs to raise the rear but doing a google search only brings up companies in u.s or oz. where can i get some lifted leaf springs in uk? might do shackles as well to get a bit more.

the navs springs sit pretty flat compared to other pick ups. if you get another leaf and open the clamps on yours just lay the other leaf underneath and secure the clamps. hilux owners have been doin it for years and you get good results

so bought some more nav springs and had them couriered to me, took a leaf out and hey what do you know. its not that easy to "lay the leaf underneath". you have to have new spring clamps made to accomadate the extra spring and the nav spring clamps are rivieted on so not sure how you get away with that one!

lesson here is make sure you see with pics how its done without outlaying your cash! imho just buy hd springs that bolt in! :dunno

Adding another leaf also makes the suspension very hard on the rear. That was a quick fix when i used to offroad suzuki samurais and they do a kit called an add a leaf. Again Lhama dave will have a contact for a company that makes them for the Nav i would guess. If you look at his web site there is a you tube clip on the rough country suspension lift. Looks good

mate you can take them apart with a bit of work then just put a new bolt in the middle where it sits on the axel(it allready has a resess in where the original spring sits) then fit the extra spring in,clamp it down .it sits ok when done ,i know a kid who has done it and it works spot on .sits higher,a lot firmer and not too hard .wish ide got him to do a step by step how to now

how did he get away with the clamps at each end of the leafs? the ones i have here are made to accomadate the stock leafs.ie, no room for the extra. i think you could defo add add another leaf to the clamp that goes right around though. im just thinking of cutting the extra leaf slightly smaller and laying it there(no clamps, just the bolt). any help very much appreciated.

as for making the ride harder. ideal with the digger on the back!!

Hello
Can’t do shackles or A-a-L to suit the D40 but can do blocks and U-bolts from 1.5 – 4”.

Rear shocks will be £ 103.20 for the pair of the new N2.0 series. To fit the shocks you might need to trim a little metal away from the lower mounting plates

Hoses and front 2.5” spacers are something I can supply as well.
