I will need to move some furniture etc to france, I have worked out that hiring a box trailer is the most cost effective way.
Problem is that the 14ft trailers to hire all seem to be 3500kg, fine for landrovers/cruisers but no good for a D40. I can find 10ft trailers 2700kg ok, so that might have to do... Just wondered if anyone had seen 2700/14ft for hire? (they are manufactured by Ifor etc)

is your licence restricting you or are you taking the rated pulling figures from nissan seriously?

2700kgs is the maximum gross weight for towing, vosa or the police will have you for pulling a trailer plated at 3500kgs.

Not so bad on a Sunday morning, but using a ferry an running the gauntlet of the french traffic cops is probably a risk too far.

Fairly sure the police don't know which 4x4's can tow what.

I agree, however Landmannnn will be travelling through at least 4 English Police areas all with different objectives and how seriously they take road Policing. On top of this is the chances of being trawled up by a Vosa traffic stop and that's even before he gets to France. The risk is too great of having the trailer and possibly tow vehicle impounded.

It may be better to hire a small truck to move the furniture.

In the UK... There is no technical problem with the gross vehicle weight of the trailer exceeding a vehicles towing capability providing its actual weight does not exceed the towing capability, or if the vehicle also has a stated train weight on its manufacturers plate and the weight of the vehicle, trailer and load does not exceed that train weight . It is entirely normal for vehicles to tow trailers which have a GVW exceeding the towing or GTW capability. Most HGV artic combinations are like this.
Can't see it being any different abroad but do check!
All that obviously corresponds to a B+E licensed driver (test passed before 1st jan 1997. :awesomework

Motorway police and Vosa are far more clever than you credit them for. They'll have your **** if they think your out of line and what they don't know is freely available to them at the end of a 24hr phone line.

A long time since I did my CPC, know I'm right but wanted to find something in writing for those who may doubt what I put.
Any queries to do with such, ring Vosa direct at hillcrest house (Leeds)

It's what I do mate, many folk think they know but haulage/road rules and regs are a massive topic.
Ya have to learn all stuff like that from construction & use regulations an sit a couple of intensive exams to obtain your CPC. :awesomework

When I took my cpc it was a 20 minute test. As you can guess the 1997 driving test rules don't affect me!

I took mine about 17/18 yrs ago an it was 3 exams, one being a case study.
Got two mates tring to do there's at the mo an they've both failed twice!
Neither one of them are daft.

I hear of loads of people failing nowadays, it was a bit micky mouse in the 80's.
