Had an hour test drive of a VW AMAROK today ...what an awesome truck
When i first heard that VW was building a pickup i thought wow ,but when i heard it would only get a VW 2.0 TDI engine i was one of the grumpy ole fockers on here that poured scorn on the idea, as i thought with just a 2.0 it would be gutless in such a heavy 4x4,After the test drive i had today I couldn't of been more wrong
The one I drove today was the top spec hiline with Satnav and 163 bhp 400mn ..now my first thoughts were that this ent gonna be nowhere near as quick as a d40 which has had 170+ BHP since its release in 2005...like i said i couldn't have been more wrong, not only did it seem faster but its 0-60 felt much quicker to ,in fact i would go so far to say that its was even quicker off the mark than the Navara v6 dci i just outed, but then the poor auto box in the nav v6 lets it down 0-60.
Apparently with this 163 BHP 2.0 TDI engine you get Bi Turbos(Twin Turbos) that aid performance+ are really efficient and give this VW truck a 600+ mile range on a tank of fuel  .. that cant be bad can it
Another thing worth noting is when you first see one of these trucks in the flesh is how big they are off to a navara ...we went down there in my little bros 2009 d40 and side by side the AMAROK looks much bigger and beefier .
The build quality and paint Finnish has got to be the best i have eva seen on a truck...Nissan or Mitsubishi can only dream of paint like that .IMO The way the VW is put together and feels puts all the other manufacturers to shame .
I couldn't help but be very impressed with AMAROK and it takes a lot to impress my critical eye, Apparently there is waiting list on these trucks of 6 months but that will be longer for me as i will wait untill they have been out for a 12 months and pick me one up in the trade :D

Just seen an Amorok for the first time proper!
 :puker: do i laugh or be sick? WTF are those wheel arch thingy's, huge gap & low profiles    Are VW on smack?
Big truck and sorta ''wanna be chunky'' but then this real stick insect of a guy gets out, so it dont get the ''tough truck'' pass. Worra loada *****, looked inside & its just PLASTIC, PLASTIC, PLASTIC! Nothing is refined,, it sounds as rough as a bag of spanners & struggled to get up a 1 in4 hill!

Give me the new Ford ranger :D (now that is a truck!)

I really like them , a work mate has got one granted he had to have it chipped straight away as it was shockinging slow and had 18" alloys fitted as an option to fill the arches but the inside is a lot better quality than a Navara ima , I am a vw fan tho got a t5 sport , the ford ranger looks great and tows 3 ton but the inside is typical ford , plastic fantastic! Value for money tho you can't get anything better than a Nav !

You should see the ones i meet on the street in the early morning when driving to work! The top-of-the-line-ones with their rollbars and huge tires and stuff are the better of them, and at least from the outside i kinda like the huge look (inside still is just a big golf...).
Those that are really used for work have incrdibly tiny and small wheels, black plastic bumbers and are stripped of almost everything. Just imagine how those enormous wheelarches look when they are filled with 16inch wheels, odinary silver steel-rims and 205er tires, cause thats what they come on standard, 205 R 16...

A mate of mine traded in his Nav a while ago for an anorak, he recons that its less power, more mpg tho but nowhere near as comfy.
I asked d'ya regret swapping... "Dunno, not sure" was the reply.
Well that kinda says it all to me. I traded in my Beemer for the Nav 5yrs ago an I'm still smiling.

I think they are soooo funny to look at, the sorta thing you'd see a clown driving round the ring of a big top, I cant help but laugh

Still want a Ford Ranger.....shall I trade me Nav for one?
Then I can join the Fuffed Or Repair Daily forum

In all total on bible honesty, a guy knocked on my door a few weeks ago, he was driving a snazzy merc, asked me to sell my truck, i told him ''NO'' he said what would you take for it? I said '' give me a blank cheque & i'll give you it back'', 'really' he said, ''Yup'', no way, no how, more chance of knitting fog. I never give that truck up! Just ask Shooter! He wants it!
If anyone gets it, Woz will :thumbright:

Sooo after all that, i'm just gonna have to find a huge down payment for me Ranger or...... sell Bobs ZX :pirate:

Yes one week in and still living it.
Used to do a fair bit of windsurfing myself back in the day, my backs a bit to knackered now though. Don't seem to see much activity these days, I think many have switched to kite surfing.
Sorry OT.
I don't get why people knock them so much , my work mate has had his about a month and loves it I've used it quite a bit and the build quality is typical vw , fantastic ! I'm getting a bit too old myself but still get out when the kids aren't using me as a climbing frame , enjoy the truck bud ,rumours are there's going to be a sportline next year , the Nav's days will me short lived if they do .

When I saw these pictures of the Amarok, I wanted one:

But when I saw one up close in a dealers, I was highly disappointed. It's almost an amazing truck, but feels like they just fell short at the last moment when designing it. Like they ran out of money, or rushed it out before the Ranger. VW build quality is terrific, and the Amarok does feel very solid. But as already mentioned, the inside just feels cheap. It lets the rest of the truck down. And there are a few simple things that I feel let the truck down, like the elastic band to hold up the rear seats, and the lack of under seat storage at the back. The screen on the SatNav is too small. There are no decent tie down points in the bed. VW have designed a kind of "twist and click" point for attaching accessories to the dash and they just feel like something you'd buy from China on eBay. They are flimsy and cheap. They'll be broken in no time.

More importantly, I felt the truck was lacking in torque. If VW made a 2.5l, or even 3.0 V6 version, like the Touareg, available, and spent a little bit more on the interior, the Amarok would have been the best truck around by far IMHO. But they didn't, so the Navara is still king. :bow
