Hey guys, would really appreciate some help with this issue!

So basically for the last few weeks my d22 is been getting slightly harder to start, usually takes a few seconds for it to fire up, but on Saturday morning I went to start it up and it wouldn't, it turnt over for about 5 seconds and didn't start then I tried again and it barely turnt over until it was just clicking, I called out my recovery company they jump started it and I went for a drive for about 40 mins he also took a reading of 14.4v from the battery , it was fine, then did a couple of short 10 min journeys over the weekend and I went to start it this morning and is the same problem again, does it look like I need a new battery or could it be the alternator or is something draining the battery?

Don't really want to shell out for a new bat if that ain't the problem, any helps really appreciated

Cheers

I'd say battery fault but it needs a full 'trickle' recovery charge to then have a 'drop test' carried out on it.
40 min drive isn't enough to charge it up.

BTW take time to say hi and introduce yourself :thumbright:

Hi, I'm planning to have it tested at qwick fit or somewhere over the weekend, but was hoping there might be some indication of what it could be before they try and flog me a new battery! I'm driving up to bill car next week to finally get the engine mod done and now my battery goes! Just hope that's all it is :)

I will do an intro soon

Lol, yeah I'm being a tight ****, Xmas is just round the corner you know! I think il just punt on a new battery, any suggestions halfords poxy reg check isn't showing any compatible for the d22.

Might go with this :

If you use the truck on short jouneys the battery will never charge up correctly.
Halfords do a ÂŁ25 maintance charger that charges at a very low rate and will recover a duff battery to good health. I've done this a few times and saved 3 batteries.
It'll take 48 hours to recover it but worth the cost and you've got it for the future.
Your call.

the aa man didn't get a reading of 14.4 volts from the battery, he got a reading off 14.4 volts when the engine was running, suggesting that your alternator is working fine, so defiantly change the battery.

If anyone has mentioned Battery electrolite level already, then I'm sorry.
Are you able to access the the cells? is it a sealed unit?
If you can get in, check the levels, if low, buy some distilled water and top it up to the top level mark, then stick it on charge.
If your charger has a current meter (amps), and you place the battery on charge over night, and the battery is still drawing current in the morning, then one or two cell is probably down, new battery I'm afraid.

One more thing, just check the post terminals and clamps for corrosion, high resistance on these cause very similar problems.
I had a Mazda 5 and the battery got flattened, (interior light left on) I charged the battery while still on the car, ended up buying a new battery for it, when I came to swap it over found the corrosion hidden between post and clamp, old battery was good.
Doing the simple things, might save you a few quid.
