Hey guys, haven't had much experience with the 4wd in the nav yet so forgive me if I sound like a noob!
Firstly when I switch to 4wd when moving, the wee display showing which wheels are powering flashes for a while before it shows all 4 wheels are driving. Also when switching out of 4wd to 2wd it seems to take ages to return to 2wd, are these normal?
Secondly tonight I was driving on an icy road which had patches where there was no nice to speak of. When on the ice the car seemed fine but when on the sections with little ice the steering seemed to be unbelievably heavy and a bit jumpy. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks sheepy and landmannn, I've heard and read a bit about the transmission windup, but it was in a straight line I could feel the steering pulling a bit, seemed better on the slippy straights tho? Know any craic about the wee indictor icon on the dash?

Really the only time you can be in 4wd on the road is if it is covered in snow. The wee light takes a while to go back to 2wd as when you are driving there is pressure on the drive train and this stops it dropping back out of 4wd, usually lifting off the throttle or dipping the clutch is enough to do the trick. Stopping and reversing a little is needed in extreme cases.
How old is the truck?

So its a bad idea to drive it in 4wd on only ice? It's just I had a bit of an a**e twitching moment the other nite in a straight line and im a bit scared of drivin it in rear wheel drive on the ice!lol! The truck is a 2005 D40 aventura??

Suppose it depends on the amount of ice! It's always a tricky one when the roads are partly covered, I flick mine in and out a lot but a lot of the time it is just guess work! A bit of weight in the bed makes it less twitchy in slippy conditions.

This is the only department where the nav is let down and the l200 blows it out of the water, permanent 4wd and rwd at the push of a handle.

Take yourself into a Carpark in the snow an ice, or better still go do a track day. Worth getting the feel of correcting a wandering back end :**** it'll soon turn into fun rather than a nightmare :awesomework
As Sheepy says, bang a bit of weight in the back to settle it down a bit, I generally drop my tyre pressures a little too when the cold comes round.
I too flick the 4x4 as and when, which tbh, is hardly ever.

Thanks sheepy! It's just when it gets onto the non icy road it feels as if its jumpin everywhere, hadn't witnessed it before tonight
Just to clarify that I meant putting weight in the back will help you out in 2wd and not make it any better on the transmission while driving in 4wd on the road :thumbleft:

Thanks guys! So just to clarify, should the steering feel heavy and pully when in 4wd on non slippy tarmac?? That is normal yes? Also d40-outlaw, where can I get general grabbers in ireland/n.Ireland??

Hi. I have an '05 Navara. The rear screen demister has stopped working. There is not a full description of which fuses do what in the handbook and the label on the fuse box lid doesn't say which one it is either. Anyone know which it is before I remove the lot and test? By the way, I have never used the seat warmers before and tried them the other day to see if it made my piles more comfortable. The demister hasn't worked since then. Could this be a related problem? The seat warmer lights still come on, as does the de-mister indicator on the dash.
