Personally I would rule out all possible causes following the long layoff, these engines are well known as being complete ba****ds to start when the fuel supply system has been interferred with e.g. new filters, pipes etc. You may have this because of the layoff.
I loosen the supply connection on the injector pump and then use the pump button on the filter housing, once I am sure bubble free fuel is coming from the connection, only then tighten it.
Then loosen an injector connection to make sure fuel is reaching the injectors, if not it may well be the immobiliser code having dropped out, this is a main dealer or very well equiped independent garage only job, to re-code them.
